One of the main purposes of this study is to develop a propulsion system that can cultivate the unique potential and capacity of migrant youths helping them grow into useful members of society. The author conducted a survey with approximately 600 immigrant youths employing a questionnaire consisting of questions on education, work/labor, career development, etc., In order to propose more efficient and workable policy proposals, approximately several on-site experts and teachers working at the school/organization for immigrant youths were surveyed. According to the results of this study, immigrant adolescents fully recognize the importance of Korean language ability. They feel, however, that they are disadvantaged by their lack of Korean language ability in terms of education and employment.Career issues were the most common problems, followed by money problems and absence of goals and dreams.Field experts, however, evaluated the government policies of career developments for migrant youths negatively.

본 연구의 주요목적은 중도입국 청소년들의 잠재력과 역량을 개발하고, 유용한 인적자원으로 성장토록 하는 자립지원 방안 마련을 위한 기초자료를 제공하는데 있다. 이를 위해 전국의 중도입국 재학생 및 학교 밖 청소년 577명을 대상으로 교육, 일/노동, 진로/진학, 가정환경, 사회 인식 등 각 영 역별 세부문항들로 구성된 설문조사를 진행하였다. 또한, 보다 실효성 있는 중도입국 청소년 관련 정책 마련을 위하여 전국의 중도입국 청소년 지원 기 관의 현장 전문가 및 중도입국청소년들을 가르치는 교사들을 대상으로 설문 조사를 실시하였다. 본 설문조사결과에 따르면, 중도입국 청소년들은 한국어 실력의 중요성을 인식하고 있으나 학업과 취업에 있어 자신의 부족한 한국 어 실력으로 불이익을 받고 있다고 응답하였다. 개인적으로 고민하는 이슈 로는 진로문제가 가장 많았고, 돈 문제와 목표의식 부재가 그 뒤를 이었다. 현장전문가들은 중도입국 청소년을 위한 정책에 대해 부정적으로 평가를 하 였으며, 그 중에서도 중도입국 청소년의 진로 및 취업 관련 정책에 대한 만 족도는 매우 낮은 수준을 보였다.
