This paper is a study on the popularity and meaning of Seoul block printed novels in national museum of asian arts GUIMET. There are fifteen Seoul block printed novels in library of national museum of asian arts GUIMET. Seoul block printed novels were possessed in the 19th century. 이 논문은 국립 기메 동양 예술 박물관 내 도서관에 소장된 15종의 경판본 소설의 대중성에 대해 고찰하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 도서관에 소장된 15종의 경판본 소설은 19세기 말 조선을 방문한 샤를 바라가 콜랭 드 플랑시의 도움을 받아 수집한 것이다. 19세기 말 프랑스인들이 조선과 조선 서적에 대한 연구를 진행하고 있었고 조선을 방문한 프랑스 지식인들의 목판본에 대한 안목과 조선과 프랑스 양국에서 소설이 성행하던 시대적 배경 속에서 경판본 소설은 박물관에 소장될 수 있었다. 현재 도서관에 소장된 15종의 경판본 소설은 조선 후기 대중성을 지닌 작품으로 영웅소설에서는 유망 서사가, 애정소설에서는 서민 여성의 수난이, 윤리소설에서는 유교 이념에 기반 한 가족 구성원 간의 연대가 강화된다. 그리고 영웅소설에서는 현실성이, 애정소설에서는 감상성이, 윤리소설에서는 보수성이 부각된다. 도서관에 소장된 경판본 소설은 19세기 조선의 문화적 특성을 드러내는 자료로서의 가치를 입증하고 가 간행되는 근간이 되었다.
