This study aims to investigate the effect of local partners’ knowledge acquisition through International Joint Ventures in emerging countries on their financial performance and the moderating effects of industry rivalry and technological change on the relationship between local partners’ knowledge acquisition and their financial performance. Based on the data collected through a survey from Thai local partners in international joint ventures located in Thailand, results showed that local partners’ knowledge acquisition through international joint ventures significantly increased their financial performance in terms of both growth rate and profitability. Results further revealed that industry rivalry and technological change positively moderated the relationship between local partners’ knowledge acquisition through international joint ventures and their financial performance in terms of both growth rate and profitability. Put differently, with an increase of industry rivalry and technological change, local partners’ knowledge acquisition through international joint ventures had stronger positive effects on their growth rate and profitability. Based on these results, the study presented some key conclusions and discussed academic and managerial implications and future research.

본 연구는 국제합작투자 상황에서 합작기업을 통한 신흥국 현지파트너기업의 지식습득이 해당 기업의 재무성과에 미치는 영향을 분석하고, 더 나아가 해당 기업의 지식습득과 재무성과의 관계에 대한 산업의 경쟁정도와 기술변화속 도의 조절효과를 분석하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 신흥국인 태국 내 국제합작기업의 현지파트너기업을 대상으로 설문을 통해 수집한 자료를 바탕으로 분석한 결과, 국제합작기업을 통한 현지파트너기업의 해외파트너기업으로부터의 지식 습득은 해당 기업의 성장성 및 수익성 측면의 재무성과를 크게 향상시키는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 산업의 경쟁정도와 기술변화속도는 국제합작기업을 통한 현지파트너기업의 지식습득과 해당 기업의 재무성과의 관계를 긍정적으로 조절 하는 것으로 나타났다. 다시 말해, 산업의 경쟁정도와 기술변화속도가 높을수록 국제합작기업을 통한 현지파트너기업 의 지식습득은 해당 기업의 성장성 및 수익성 측면의 재무성과를 더 크게 향상시키는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구 결과를 바탕으로, 본 연구는 중요한 결론을 제시하고 학문적, 관리적 시사점 및 향후 연구에 대해 논의하였다.
