This study examined the law of change, which is the core of Kang Youwei’s calligraphic thought, from the perspective of a theory of the great ultimate and yin and yang. Kang Youwei intended to reform calligraphic theories by respecting the stela from Wei dynasty and lowering the calligraphic manuscripts from Tang dynasty. The core of Kang Youwei’s calligraphic thought is a change. The change is the law of nature, which is a change of yin and yang. It is the essence of the book of Change. Kang Youwei applied to his calligraphic theory that ‘the learned person should take good care of the time and go through the change’. The calligraphy he pursued is to express an profound principle with a new will or to create a different shape through a new style. Kang Youwei thought that calligraphy reflected the great Way of the universe even though it was a minor craft, and he emphasized the Equilibrium-Harmony beauty of using both square and circle. The thought of ​​the change in Kang Youwei’s Gwangyizhoushuangji(廣藝舟雙楫) was influenced by the book of Change, and he applied it to calligraphy as well as politics. Therefore, this book has a calligraphy historical significance in that it has brought up the beauty of the stela from Wei dynasty further.

본 논문은 康有爲 서예사상의 핵심인 變法을 태극음양론적 관점에서 살펴보았다. 康有爲는 唐代의 서예를 낮추고 魏碑를 존숭하면서, 重碑抑帖이나 尊魏卑唐의 개혁론을 주장한다. 康有爲 서예사상의 핵심은 ‘變’이다. 變은 天道이며 陰陽의 변화이다. 그것은 『周易』의 이치이다. 康有爲는 ‘배운 자는 때를 잘 살펴 변화에 통해야 한다.’는 점을 자신의 서예이론에 적용하였다. 그가 추구한 서예는 新意妙理나 新體異態이다. 康有爲는 서예의 변화가 비록 小道이지만, 여기에는 우주의 大道가 반영되어 있다고 보았으며, 方圓並用의 中和美를 강조하였다. 康有爲 『廣藝舟雙楫』의 變法사상은 『周易』의 영향을 받아 정치뿐만 아니라, 서예에 그대로 적용시켰다. 따라서 이 책은 魏碑의 아름다움을 한 층 더 끌어 올렸다는 점에서 서예사적 의의가 있다.
