“Gyechukilgi”(癸丑日記), or “Diary Written in the Gye-chuk Year,” revolves around the appearance of the court ladies in the confrontation between King Gwanghae and Queen Inmok. It is the story of “Gechukoksa”(癸丑獄事), a re-reconstructed from the logic of the winner after “Injobanjung”(仁祖反正). “Gyechukilgi” has a political character, being biased toward a certain party faction. It is important to note that the court ladies shown in the text are exceptional in their confrontational stance, which is defined as good or evil depending on their political position. In this paper, analysis was conducted based on non-formal individual characters who were unable to distinguish between good and evil in the behavior among the court ladies featured in “Gyechukilgi.” Court ladies are defined as either good or evil depending on their relationship with Queen Inmok. However, the so-called "good" and "bad" conduct is related to the desire to survive, which is concealed and distorted in the narrative. Court ladies are very political personalities, greatly influenced by the way they serve in the political space. But “Gyechukilgi” shows the real purpose of living in this group of political figures. It also reveals the reality of court ladies as weak people who are easily victimized in partisan strife through the words of Queen Inmok and typical loyalist Byun Sang-goong. As such, “Gyechukilgi” describes a variety of court ladies as good or evil in the confrontation between King Gwanghae and Queen Inmok, but it can be re-read as the text of a desire to survive as it reveals that they are human beings pursuing the desire to stay alive.

『계축일기』는 광해군과 인목대비의 대립 사이에 있는 궁녀들의 모습을 중심으로 이야기가 전개되고 있다. 『계축일기』는 인조반정 이후 승자의 논리에 따라 다시 재구성된 계축옥사의 이야기로 광해군과 인목대비를 중심으로 한 정치적 대립 속에서 선악을 구분하는 모습을 보이고 있다. 하지만 작품 속 궁녀들의 언행을 살펴보면 사실상 선악 간에 판별하기 어 려운 점이 있다. 이는 『계축일기』가 정치적 ‘대변자’들의 증언일 뿐 아니라 비극에 대한 ‘생존자’들의 기록이기도 하기 때문이다. 『계축일기』에서 는 인목대비와의 관계에 따라 궁녀들을 선인 혹은 악인으로 규정하고 있 다. 하지만 이른바 ‘선인’과 ‘악인’이 행하는 행동을 보면 그들의 동인(動因) 은 주군에 대한 충성과 같은 이념적 가치가 아닌, 생존으로의 욕구임을 알 수 있다. 궁녀들은 정치적 상황과 밀접한 관련을 가진 존재로, 『계축일기』는 이들의 발화를 통한 정치적 목적 하에 향유되었다. 하지만 동시에 살고자 했던 궁녀들의 모습을 보여주면서 그들이 속한 정치적 입장과 상 관없이 모두가 삶과 죽음의 기로에 선 희생자였음을 드러내기도 했다. 이 를 볼 때 『계축일기』는 당쟁의 비극 속에서도 인간으로서 생존을 추구했 던 궁녀들 스스로를 그린 서사로 읽을 수 있을 것이다.
