Western musicals and Chinese opera music belong to two art forms which are totally different from the cultural background and artistic development situation. Generally speaking, the study of Western musicals tends to analyze a particular work, while the study of Chinese operas tends to explore a way out. The study of the differences between the two is still a minority present. But with the continuous development and progress of art and culture, the study of Western musicals and Chinese operas is continuing. The study of music is the trend of the times, so it is very necessary to make a comprehensive and unified study of the two. The new Beijing opera “Love Bell Tower”, created by Shanghai Peking Opera Theatre, is based on Victor Hugo's romantic novel “Notre Dame de Paris”. “Notre Dame de Paris” shines in the world literary world with profound ideological connotations, wonderful literary ideas and great artistic charm. It is a work that reveals human nature, praises true and beautiful, and criticizes false ugliness. So it is a realist work full of rich romanticism and serious themes. The creator of the new Beijing Opera “Love Bell Tower” is loyal to the spirit of the original work, which is the artistic laws of Chinese opera and the soul of Hugo in the shape of Peking Opera, and the spirits are enriched with various artistic elements. The leading roles focus on both literature and kongfu, making a perfect balance between singing and acting. They strive to let the audience appreciate and agree with the art form of “Beijing Notre Dame in China”, and let them realize the great inclusiveness and shaping of the profound Beijing Opera art. This article takes “Love Bell Tower” as an example to briefly explore the new development of Chinese Peking Opera and compare it with the similar aspects of the aesthetic orientation of Western musicals. They hope to explore the future of Chinese Peking Opera art with more artists.

서양의 뮤지컬과 중국 희곡음악은 문화적 소양 및 예술적 발전 형식이 전혀 다른 두 가지 예술 형식이다. 연구문헌을 참고하면, 서양의 뮤지컬에 대한 연구는 작품분석을 중심으로 한 연구가, 중국의 희곡에 대한 연구는 발전의 길을 탐색하는 데에 연구가 중심을 이룬다. 현재까지 두 예술장르의 간의 직접적인 비교분석에 대한 연구는 드물다. 하지만 예술문화의 끊임없는 발전과 진보함에 따라 서양 뮤지컬과 중국 희곡음악에 대한 연구는 주요 연구 과제라 할 수 있겠다. 따라서 두 예술장르를 종합적이고 체계적으로 연구하는 것 또한 필요하다고 본다. 상해 경극원의 창작경극 “정상종루”는 빅토르 위고(Victor Hugo)의 낭만주의 소설인 “노트르담의 곱추(Notre Dame de Paris)”에 근거하여 창작한 작품이다. “노트르담의 곱추”는 심오한 사상과 뛰어난 문학성으로 세계 문단에서 가치를 인정받은 소설이며, 짙은 낭만주의 색채를 가진 현실주의 작품이다. 경극 “정상종루”는 원작의 정신과 중국 희곡의 예술양식을 충실히 구현하면서 동시에 경극의 형태로 위고의 독창적인 작품세계를 선보인다. 문무(文武)를 겸비한 주연배우는 노래와 동작을 통해 관객들이 “노트르담 드 파리”의 경극적 표현방식을 감상하고 이해하도록 한다. 또한 경극예술에 잠재되어 있는 거대한 포용성과 가소성(可塑性)을 깨닫게 한다. 본문은 경극 “정상종루”를 예로 들어 중국 경극의 새로운 발전 방향을 탐구하고, 서양 뮤지컬과의 차이점을 비교분석연구 한다. 본 연구를 통해 더 많은 연구자들이 향후 중국 경극 예술 발전에 대한 새로운 방향을 탐구하기 바란다.
