Australia is a multi-ethnic nation made up of diverse immigrants. It has an area of similar size to the United States, but has a low population density. And the geographical features of the city and its population, which are concentrated on the east coast, are creating a unique police system in Australia. Australia has inherited the British system in the past, but a number of international crimes have occurred recently, and Australia's unique police system is emerging. In particular, the activities of the police were concentrated in the state police, but now the importance of the federal police(AFP) is emerging due to the necessity of international linkage. The Australian Federal Police Agency is responding to various national needs through various police innovations. In addition, the federal police function cooperatively with various government agencies, departments, and international nonprofit organizations to supplement the limitations of federal police. Australian federal police are providing a variety of investigative services that the government has commissioned and are expanding the scope of their activities, especially in criminal investigations. Child protection, counterfeit currency-related criminal investigations, cybercrime, family crime, fraud and drug crime investigations, as well as a variety of offenses from the police, such as prevention, investigation, exploration and countermeasures, Police activities are underway. In addition, it conducts various aviation-related crime prevention activities and is actively responding to recent terrorist attacks. This flexible and cooperative police activity suggests that the Role allocation and Cooperation of the national police and the autonomous police in Korea will be expanded in the future.

오스트레일리아는 다양한 이민자들이 모여서 이루어진 다민족 국가이다. 또한 미국의 영토와 비슷한 크기의 넓은 영토에 적은 인구밀도의 분포, 동쪽 해안가에 집결된 도시 및 인구 등에 대한 지리적 특징은 오스트레일리아만의 특징적인 경찰 제도를 만들어 내고 있다. 과거 영국의 제도를 그대로 계승하고 있던 오스트레일 리아는 최근 다양한 초국가적 또는 국제적 범죄 양상에 따라 호주만의 특유의 경 찰 제도로 그 모습이 개혁적으로 변화하고 있다. 특히 주 경찰에만 집중되던 경찰 활동은 이제 국제적 연계의 필요성 및 범국가적 범죄로 인하여 연방 경찰(AFP)의 중요성이 대두되고 있는 실정이다. 이에 오스트레일리아 연방 경찰청은 여러 경찰 혁신을 통해 다양한 국가적 요구에 대응하고 있다. 또한 연방 경찰은 다양한 정부 기관 및 부서, 국제적 비영리 단체 등과 협력적으로 역할을 수행하여 연방 경찰의 한계성을 보완하고 있다. 호주 연방 경찰은 정부가 의뢰하는 여러 수사 서비스를 제공하고 특히 범죄 수사에 대한 활동 영역을 확대하고 있다. 아동 보호, 위조 화 폐 관련 범죄 수사, 사이버 범죄, 가족 범죄, 사기 및 마약 범죄 수사 등은 물론 이 며, 특히 환경 범죄에 대하여 여러 정부 기관과 협조하여 예방, 조사, 탐사 및 대응책 등과 같이 경찰 영역을 벗어난 다양한 경찰 활동을 전개하고 있는 특징을 확인 할 수 있다. 또한 여러 항공 관련 범죄 예방 활동을 하며, 최근 대테러에 대한 적극 적 대응을 수행하고 있다. 이러한 유동적이고 협력적인 경찰활동은 앞으로 자치경 찰을 시행해야 하는 우리나라에서 국가경찰과 자치경찰의 역할 배분 및 협력에 대 해 시사하는 점이 크다고 할 수 있을 것이다.
