This study conducted an analysis of the physical and chemical characteristics in 4 black ornaments that have been excavated from dwellings in the Bronze Age of Pyeongtaek, and investigated their material characteristics. The observational results of the morphological characteristics of black ornaments show that it forms a stratified structure and that the inner crevice is filled with soil materials. The results of analyzing its physical characteristics show that all 4 ornaments demonstrate values higher than jet that are similar to the weight of petrified wood. Also, the results from an analysis of chemical characteristics verified that the black ornaments were mainly composed of soil materials and a portion of organic matter. When combining the physical and chemical analysis results, it is determined that the 4 ornaments are composed of the same material, and that they exhibit characteristics more similar to petrified wood than jet.

본 연구에서는 평택-모산 영신지구 도시개발사업부지 내 유적의 청동기시대 주 거지에서 출토된 흑색 장식구 4점을 대상으로 물리․화학적 특성 분석을 실시하여 재질 특성을 규명하고자 하였다. 형태학적 특징 관찰결과 층상 구조를 형성하고 있 으며, 내부 공극이 토양물질로 충진되어 있는 것을 통해 규화목의 특징과 유사한 것 을 알 수 있다. 물리적 특성 분석결과 4점 모두 흑옥(jet)의 비중보다 높은 규화목의 비중과 근사한 값을 나타내었다. 이어 화학적 특성 분석결과 흑색 장식구의 구성성 분은 유기물이 주성분으로 구성된 흑옥과는 달리 토양물질이 주성분으로, 일부 유기물로 구성된 것을 확인하였다. 물리․화학적 분석결과를 종합해 볼 때 흑색 장식 구의 경우 규화목의 특성을 일부 나타내고 있으나, 다른 종류의 광물이나 암석일 가 능성도 배제할 수 없으므로 향후 추가 연구를 통해 보다 명확히 분류할 수 있을 것으 로 판단된다.
