This article is a study that finds out the contents that are appropriate to the eight core values and virtues of the Character Education Promotion Act in the classical text Myungsimbogam and looks for implications for personality education in the present day. Recent news articles on education reveal that school violence has become serious due to materialism and dehumanization, and that our traditional values centering on human beings are falling. In order to solve these problems, character education focusing on humanity has always been emphasized, but it is true that its definition and aims are too abstract to be effective. In this study, we tried to find the specific contents of personality education in Myungsimbogam, which was widely used as primary text in charge of literacy and personality education during the Joseon Dynasty. It is believed that the cross-curricular learning of personality education through the utilization of classics will be helpful for realizing the values and virtues of the Character Education Promotion Act.

이 글은 고전 텍스트인 『명심보감』에서 인성교육진흥법의 8가지 핵심 가치덕목 에 적용할 수 있는 내용들을 찾아 분석하고 오늘날 인성교육에 주는 시사점을 찾아 본 연구이다. 최근 교육에 관한 기사들을 살펴보면 물질주의와 비인간화 등으로 인 해 학교폭력이 심각해지고 인간을 중심에 두는 우리의 전통적 가치가 무너지고 있 음을 알 수 있다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 사람됨을 강조하는 인성교육은 늘 있어왔으나 정의와 목표가 너무 추상적이었던 것이 사실이다. 이에 조선시대 동안 문리와 인성교육을 담당하며 초학교재로 널리 활용되었던 『명심보감』에서 인성교 육의 구체적 내용들을 찾아 현대에도 유용한 메시지를 주는 부분을 살펴보았다. 이 러한 고전을 활용한 인성교육의 범교과학습은 교육현장에서 인성교육진흥법 가치 덕목의 구체화에 도움이 될 것이라 사료된다.
