In this paper, the first aim is to explain how Chronicle of Korea Fishery was compiled and what was the purpose of publication, and secondly, to pursue the composition, contents and characteristics of Chronicle of Korea Fishery. This material was compiled by imperialist Japan for expediting Japanese fishermen’s fishing in sea of Chosun and the Japanese migration since the 1905’s forced treaty. Futhermore, for the intention of colonizing Chosun Dynasty. The overall composition of the first book in Chronicle of Korea Fishery consists of photos in the beginning of book, historical and geographical data, which can be called human geography information, and main maritime information like mammals･fishes･shells and salt. The other three books are organized based on information about coastal areas and fishing in order of Hamgyeong, Gangwon, Gyeongsango, Jeolla, Chungcheong, Gyeonggi, Hwanghae and Pyongan Province. This composition seems to be intended to supply information to Japanese fishermen fishing in the coast of Chosun, as well as to encourage the Japanese to move to Korea by providing general information about Chosun. The most important characteristic of the content of Chronicle of Korea Fishery is that it is the first survey of the fishing industry for the entire Chosun. Secondly, it has not only the character of the fishery chronicle but also the character of the geography. Thirdly, for the first time in Chosun, marine products were classified according to modern animal and plant classification methods. Fourth, it provides detailed and modern statistical data on weather and ocean such as temperature and water temperature. Finally, it specifies what fishing activities can be carried out on the all coast of Chosun and how to transport and sell them.

본 논문에서는 『한국수산지』가 어떻게 성립되었는지 그 목적이 무엇인지, 그리고 『한국수산지』의 구성･내용 및 그 특징이 무엇인지를 밝히고자 한다. 『한국수산지』는 을사늑약 이후 제국주의 일본이 자국민의 출어자 육성 및 조선 내 일 본인 어촌을 확보하기 위하여 보다 신속하게 장려사업을 추진하는 한편 조선의 식민지 화를 촉진시키려는 목적에서 편찬된 것이다. 『한국수산지』의 전체적인 구성은 각 권마 다 권두에 사진을 배치하고 있으며, 제1집은 인문지리정보라고 할 수 있는 제1편과 수산 정보라고 할 수 있는 제2편으로 구성되어 있다. 그리고 제2집에서 제4집은 함경도에서 강원도, 경상도, 전라도, 충청도, 경기도, 황해도, 평안도의 순서로 각 도별의 연안 정보 및 어업 정보를 중심으로 정리하고 있다.1) 이러한 구성은 어업을 목적으로 조선 연안에 출가(出稼)하는 어민들뿐만 아니라, 일본 수산관계자에게 조선의 전반적인 정보를 제공 하여 조선 내에 일본인 어촌을 건설하고자 하는 의도에 부합되는 것이다. 『한국수산지』의 내용이 갖는 특징을 들면 우선 한국의 최초 수산 조사서라는 점을 지 적할 수 있다. 둘째, 수산지의 성격뿐만 아니라 조선에 대한 인문지리지의 성격을 갖고 있다는 점이다. 셋째, 조선 최초로 린네의 근대적인 동식물분류법에 따라 수산물을 분류 하였다는 점이다. 이것은 본초학의 분류학을 따르고 있는 종래의 어보와 구별된다. 넷째, 기온･수온 등 기상 및 해양에 대한 구체적이고 근대적인 통계 자료를 제공하고 있다는 점이다. 다섯째, 사진 자료를 활용한 최초의 사례 중 하나이다. 다음으로 2권에서 4권에 는 지명 색인이 첨부되어 있는데 이 또한 대단히 중요한 근대적인 문헌의 구성 요소이다. 마지막으로, 조선 연안에서 어떤 어업활동을 할 수 있으며, 어획물이 어떻게 운송･판매 되고 있는지를 구체적으로 제시하고 있다는 점을 들 수 있다.
