Liturgy is said to be a certain Christian area corresponding to the current main theme that body and heart is connected together. Liturgy is members`communal way of acting which can make Christian community be a living "community." These characteristics allow Christian community`s members to find their identity and to realize how to live. The characteristics of liturgy ,which can be expressed into integrity, community, recentralization, seem to correspond to the purpose of Christian education that aims to orient integral transformation of human, to transfer community`s tradition and to help find his or her identity as a Christian. Based on this, this thesis has tried to investigate the possibility of "Liturgical Christian education" by comparing existed study of three Christian education scholars who are John H. Westerhoff Ⅲ, Debra Dean Murphy and Elizabeth Moore. "Liturgical Christian education" is not an education using liturgy as teaching method but a kind of education like liturgy, or liturgy like education which is composed of educational principles flowing from affluent elements of liturgy. It can be a new approach or an alternative to the education field of church and mission where person and community as well as knowledge and action have been separated, paying attention to transfer knowledge which is often called schooling.

예전은 몸과 마음이 연결되어 있다는 현시대의 자각에 가장 부응하는 기독교의 한 영역이다. 동시에 예전은 기독교 공동체를 “공동체”로 유지시키고 살아있게 하는 구성원 공동의 행위양식이다. 이로써 예전은 구성원들이 자신들의 정체성을 찾고 어떻게 살아야하는가를 인식하게 한다. 이러한 예전의 통전성, 공동체성, 재중심성은 영과 육의 전인적이고 통전적인 변형을 지향한다. 더불어 기독교 공동체성의 전수와 기독교인으로서의 정체성 형성과 소명 발견을 돕고 형성하는 기독교교육의 목적과 일치한다고 할 수 있다. 이에 본 글은 예전의 교육적이고 형성적인 측면을 우선적으로 고찰하였다. 그것을 바탕으로 기독교교육 학자들의 - 존 웨스터호프(John H. Westerhoff Ⅲ), 데브라 딘 머피(Debra Dean Murphy), 엘리자베스 무어(Elizabeth Moore) - 예전과 기독교교육을 연결한 선행 연구를 비교 분석함으로써, “예전적 기독교교육”의 가능성을 살펴보았다. 예전적 기독교교육이란 예전을 교육의 도구로 사용하는 것이 아니라 예전의 풍성한 요소들에서 흘러나오는 교육적 원리들이 교육에 스며들게 한 예전 같은 교육, 교육 같은 예전을 말한다. 이러한 예전적 기독교교육은 객관적 지식 전수 중심의 학교식 교육, 지식과 행위, 개인과 공동체가 분리된 교회와 선교의 교육 현장에 하나의 대안 또는 새로운 접근이 될 수 있을 것이다.
