This paper presents a detailed study of the production background and process of the 1929 film “Youkiryuketsroku,” which was adapted from the serial novel under the same name as the daily newspaper Keijo Nippo. The articles show that the media event of “film adaptation of newspaper serial novel,” as a propaganda media of the Government-General, has strengthened the influence and gained popularity among the public and functioned as a media mix strategy. The production process of this film, based on the serial novel published in colonial Joseon and cinematized by a Japanese film company, has never been in the spotlight and is seen as an example of a large media event that has spread from colonial Joseon to mainland Japan and even Manchuria. When the silent film production system shifted to talkies in the late 1920s, this media mix strategy helped both the popularity of the period novel and that of the film to create an interaction, resulting in the newspaper gaining popularity. In the process, Keijo Nippo was involved in all phases of the movie industry, ranging from production to distribution to the box office, and served as a planner for popular cultural products.

본 논문에서는 『경성일보』 연재소설을 원작으로 1929년 제작된 영화 <요귀유혈록(妖鬼流血錄)>의 제작배경 및 제작과정을 『경성일보』의 기사를 중심으로 상세히 밝혀냄으로써, 총독부 선전미디어로서 『경성일보』가 ‘신문 연재소설의 영화화’라는 미디어 이벤트를 통해 대중성을 획득하여 그 영향력을 더욱 키워가는 미디어믹스 전략을 구사했음을 확인해보았다. 지금까지 전혀 주목받지 못했던 이 영화의 제작과정은, 식민지 조선에서 연재된 소설이 일본 내지의 영화제작회사에 의해 영화화된 후, 식민지 조선뿐만 아니라 내지와 만주로까지 확산되어간 대형 미디어 이벤트의 한 사례로서 주목된다. 1920년대 후반, 새로운 영화기술의 발명으로 그때까지 영화계를 지배하던 무성영화 제작시스템이 유성영화로 옮겨가던 무렵, 이러한 미디어믹스 전략을 통해 시대소설의 인기와 영화라는 매체의 인기는 상호 상승작용을 일으키며 『경성일보』가 대중성을 얻는 데 일조했다. 그 과정에서 『경성일보』는 영화의 제작･배급･흥행에 이르기까지 모든 단계에 관여함으로써, 대중문화상품의 ‘기획자’로서의 역할을 담당했다고 할 수 있다.
