The present article classified the various nonverbal actions in the 4.16 oral testimony into four types: 1) nonverbal actions involved in utterance; 2) nonverbal voices; 3) physical actions; and 4) silence. The nonverbal actions involved in utterance include the speed and tone of the utterance. By minimizing indicative directions of nonverbal behavior in the 4.16 oral testimony, readers who encounter these oral records are able to become intuitively aware of oral situations. Nonverbal voices, such as laughing, crying, or sighing, are represented through limited scripts in the 4.16 oral testimony. Such a characteristic indicates that the complexly intertwined thoughts and emotional context of the oral narrator should be comprehended with a multilayered approach. Physical actions often appear not only to facilitate understanding of the oral testimony, but also to provide clues to the state of the mind. In this regard, the scope of representation for physical behavior needs to be more extensive and detailed. Finally, silence is a semantic judgment based on the content and circumstances of the oral language, which determines the method of representation. The silence that appears in the 4.16 oral testimony appears to provide implications to whatever the oral narrator cannot convey in words. The manner in which nonverbal actions are represented in the 4.16 oral testimony is broader and more detailed but less accurate than scripts with directions, and allows the readers to intuitively grasp the oral situation. This method of representation focuses on providing readers with room to understand the meaning of nonverbal actions in a broader context.

본고에서는 『4.16구술증언록』에서 나타나는 다양한 비언어적 행위들을 1) 비언어 적 발화 행위 2) 비언어적 음성 3) 신체적 행위 4) 침묵의 네 가지 유형으로 분류하 고, 구술 기록에서 각각의 비언어적 행위가 『4.16구술증언록』에서 재현되는 방식을 구술자의 마음의 상태를 재현하는 것에 중점을 두어 분석했다. 비언어적 발화 행위는 발화의 속도, 어조 등이다. 『4.16구술증언록』에서는 비언어 적 행위에 대한 지시적인 재현을 최소화는 대신, 구술 기록을 접하는 독자가 직관적으 로 구술 상황을 인지할 수 있도록 한다. 비언어적 음성은 웃음이나 울음, 한숨 등으로, 『4.16구술증언록』에서는 비언어적 음성을 제한적인 지문을 통해 재현함으로써 복잡하게 얽혀 있는 구술자의 생각과 감정적 맥락을 중층적으로 독해해야 하는 곳임 을 지시한다. 『4.16구술증언록』에서 신체적 행위는 단지 구술 내용에 대한 이해를 돕 는 것뿐만 아니라 구술자의 마음의 상태를 미루어 짐작할 수 있는 단서로도 자주 등 장한다. 이런 점에서 『4.16구술증언록』에서는 신체적 행위에 대한 재현의 범위가 좀 더 넓고 세밀해야 할 필요가 있다. 마지막으로 『4.16구술증언록』에서 침묵은 구술의 내용 및 상황에 따른 의미적 판단으로 재현 방식이 결정된다. 4.16구술증언에서 나타 나는 침묵은 구술자가 말로 다 전하지 못하는 어떤 의미를 담고 있다고 본다. 『4.16구술증언』에서 비언어적 행위가 재현되는 방식은 녹취전사문에서 표시되어야 하는 비언어적 행위의 범위를 보다 폭넓고 세밀하게 정하되, 이에 대한 재현 방식으로 지시적인 지문 대신 덜 정확하지만, 독자들이 구술 상황을 직관적으로 파악할 수 있도 록 재현하는 두 가지 방향으로 요약할 수 있다. 이러한 재현 방식은 『4.16구술증언록』은 독자들이 보다 폭넓은 맥락적 이해 속에서 구술자의 비언어적 행위에 담긴 의미를 독해할 수 있는 여지를 제공하는데 초점을 맞추고 있다.
