As male caregivers appeared in the family caring area, which has been traditionally recognized as the role of women in Japan, the purpose of this study, noting the phenomenon of increase in its ratio in recent years, is to empirically identify the present situation and the status of increase of male caregivers, and review if this phenomenon can be transferred to degenderization to mitigate the gender separation in caring, which has been concretely preserved so far. To examine the contents of the analysis, first, as for the phenomenon of male caregiver increase, from the results of reviewing the actual statistical data and related literature, there are family structural changes such as the increase in the number of single-family households and married households, and the decrease in living together households, etc., and the aspect is changing from caring by daughter-in-law in the former way to caring of biological children. Second, as for the matter that the increase in the number of male caregivers leads to degenderization, which may change the gender role separation in caring, the change of degenderization policies was analyzed from the three viewpoints of the nursing care leave system, the change of the gender role consciousness of the male caregiver, the masculinity of the male caregiver and the social recognition, and As a result, we could see that the application limit of degenderization policy, maintenance of gendered masculinity of male caregiver and identity confusion, and social perception of masculinity still maintain gender segmental criteria. Therefore, despite the quantitative increase of male caregivers, it is difficult for the phenomenon to be able to lead to the change of degenderization. In order to alleviate the gender segmental structure of male caregivers in the future, various policies should be strengthened to support the difficulty of the caring process and the social environment in which job and caring are not incompatible without gender discrimination.

본 연구의 목적은 일본에서 전통적으로 여성의 역할로 인식되어왔던 가족돌봄영역에서 남성돌봄자가 새롭게 등장하고 최근 그 비율이 증가하는 현상에 주목하면서 남성돌봄자 증가의 실태와 현황을 실증적으로 파악하고 이 현상이 지금껏 공고하게 유지되어왔던 돌봄에서의 성별분리를 완화하는 탈젠더화로 변화될 수 있는 것인가를 검토하는 것이다. 분석의 내용은, 먼저 남성돌봄자 증가현상은 단독가구 및 부부가구의 증가와 동거가구 감소 등의 가족구조적 변화를 배경으로 하고 있으며 그 양상도 이전의 며느리에 의한 돌봄에서 아들, 딸의 친자녀돌봄으로 변화하고 있었다. 둘째, 탈젠더화 가능성에 대해서는, 탈젠더화 정책의 변화, 남성돌봄당사자의 성역할인식변화, 남성돌봄자의 남성성에 대한 사회적 기대라는 3가지 분석관점을 가지고 분석한 결과, 탈젠더화 정책의 적용과 전개상의 한계, 남성돌봄자의 젠더화된 남성성의 유지와 정체성 혼란, 그리고 남성성에 대한 사회적 인식은 여전히 성분절적 역할기대로 남아있다. 이에 현재 일본에서의 남성돌봄자는 양적인 증가를 계속하고 있음에도 불구하고 반드시 탈젠더화의 변화로 이어지기에는 어려움이 있는 것으로 보인다. 향후 남성돌봄자가 젠더분절적 구조를 완화하기 위해서는 성별 구분없이 일과 돌봄의 양립이 가능한 보편적 정책제도적 사회환경과 돌봄과정의 곤란을 지원하는 다양한 정책들이 강화되어야 할 것이다.
