The Korean society is experiencing many social problems behind the realization of democracy and rapid economic growth. There are many ways to solve these social problems, but enhancing the citizens' legal awareness is one of good ways. One of the ways to enhance the citizens' legal awareness is law-related education, the education related to law with the purpose of cultivating rational thinking ability, positive participation consciousness, order consciousness, constitutional value, legal understanding ability necessary for democratic citizens by providing the youth and the general public with knowledge and function of law, process of law formation, system of law, principles and value of law. Thus, the Ministry of Justice enacted the「Support for Legal Education Act」aiming to cultivate the people’s reasonable legal awareness based on autonomy and harmony by defining what is needed to systematically support and conduct law-related education and contribute to the realization of the rule of law by fostering healthy democratic citizens who understand the free democratic basic order. In this paper, we analyzed the contents of the laws that affected the practice of law-related education at this point, ten years after the Support for Legal Education Act was enacted and examined the activation process of the law-related education practice and then, identified the problems that have arisen in the process of law-related education activation and presented solutions

한국 사회는 민주주의 실현과 빠른 경제성장 이면에 많은 사회문제들이 발생하고 있다. 이러한 사 회문제의 해결에 있어서 여러 가지 방법들이 있겠으나 시민들의 법의식을 높이는 것도 좋은 방안 중 하나이다. 시민들의 법의식을 높이는 방법 중에는 청소년 및 일반국민에게 법에 관한 지식과 기능, 법 의 형성과정, 법의 체계, 법의 원리 및 가치 등의 제공을 통하여 민주시민으로서 필요한 법적 이해능 력, 합리적 사고능력, 긍정적 참여의식, 질서의식, 헌법적 가치관 등을 함양함을 목적으로 하는 법과 관련된 일체의 교육인 법교육이 있다. 이에 법무부는 법교육을 체계적으로 지원하고 수행하는 데 필요 한 사항을 정함으로써 국민들로 하여금 자율과 조화에 바탕을 둔 합리적인 법의식을 함양하고 자유민 주적 기본질서를 이해하는 건전한 민주시민을 육성하여 법치주의 구현에 이바지함을 목적으로 하는 「법교육지원법」을 제정하였다. 본 글은 법교육지원법이 제정된지 10년이 지난 이 시점에서 「법교 육지원법」이 법교육의 실천에 영향을 준 법조항의 내용을 분석하고, 이로 인해 법교육 실천이 어떤 활성화 과정을 거쳤는지 살펴본 후 법교육 활성화 과정에서 발생된 과제를 찾아 해결책을 제시하였다.
