『Jijanggyeong』, one of Buddhist scriptures, include the chapter about the charity of ‘Buddhist alms (donation)’. As such, it emphasizes the importance and necessity of ‘Buddhist alms’. Nevertheless, ‘Buddhist alms’ described in this scripture are neither bombastic nor grandiose. They are things that people already fulfill or can fulfill in their living. In other words, it describes that ‘Buddhist alms’ are not something done by rich persons, or something that can be delayed until one earns a lot of money, and emphasizes the necessity and importance of ‘Buddhist alms’ in the way of living with other people. Therefore, in order to achieve the purpose for preparing an educational material to teach true meaning and value of ‘Buddhist alms’ in early childhood education,this study looked into the early-childhood-educational implications of ‘Buddhist alms’ in 『Jijanggyeong』. As the results of this study, first, it was possible to understand the value and importance of Buddhist alms in terms of the implementation of desirable community. Secondly, it was possible to find the relation between life respect and Buddhist alms. These study results are able to let people living together with others realize a desirable living way. In addition, this study is meaningful in the point that it gave chances to think about the socially pervasive life contempt again and to mediate the intrinsic value of traditional culture.

불교의 여러 경전 중 하나인 『지장경』에서는 ‘보시’의 공덕만을 다룬 장이 있을 정도로 ‘보시’의 중요성과 필요성을 강조하고 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 이 경에서 언급하고 있는 ‘보시’의 내용은 거 창하지도 않고 대단하지도 않다. 우리가 생활 속에서 이미 실천하고 있거나 실천할 수 있는 내용들 이다. 즉 ‘보시’는 부자들만 하는 것, 돈을 많이 벌 때까지 기다려야 하는 것이 아님을 알려 주고 있을 뿐 아니라, 타인과 더불어 살아가는 데 있어 ‘보시’의 필요성과 중요성에 대해 말하고 있는 것이 다. 그러므로 이 연구에서는 유아기부터 진정한 ‘보시’의 의미와 가치를 일깨워 줄 수 있는 교육 자 료를 마련해 보고자 하는 데 목적을 두고 『지장경』에서 설하고 있는 ‘보시’의 유아교육적 함의를 살 펴보았다. 연구결과 첫째, 바람직한 공동체사회 구현에 있어 보시의 가치와 중요성을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 생명존중과 보시의 관계에 대해 알 수 있었다. 이상과 같은 연구결과는 타인과 더불어 살아가 는 우리에게 바람직한 삶의 방법을 깨닫게 해 주는 것이다. 또한 현재 우리 사회에 만연하고 있는 생명경시 풍토에 대해 다시 한 번 고민해 볼 수 있는 기회를 제공하는 것과 함께, 전통문화에 내재 된 가치를 되새겨 볼 수 있는 기회를 제공하였다는 점에서 연구의 의의가 있다.
