The purpose of the study was to investigate and analyze the current status of the career specialist teachers in elementary school and to suggest the improvement strategies base on the results of the investigation and the analysis. The survery research method was utilized in the study and the subjects of the study was the 229 career specialist teachers in elementary school in Daegu city. Total of 119 returned questionnaires were analyzed and the SPSS/WIN ver. 25 was used to analyze the data statistically. The conclusions of the study were as follows: First, it is needed to improve the elementary school career specialist teachers system. The clarity of duties of career specialist teachers sould be heightened and the more professional career classes by career specialist teachers should be guaranteed. Second, the level of the expertise of the career specialist teachers should be heightened. Before becoming the career specialist teachers, teachers should meet the guide line to be an expertise of career education. Third, the main tasks of the career specialist teachers were not in the career education. Therefore, there should be the standard on the supplementary classes.

이 연구의 목적은 초등 진로전담교사제의 실태를 분석하고 문제점을 파악하여 개선방안을 마련 하는데 있었다. 이 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위하여 조사연구를 수행하였다. 이 연구의 대상은 2018학년도 대구광역시의 229개 초등학교에 배치되어 있는 진로전담교사 229명이었으며 모든 진 로전담교사를 대상으로 전수조사를 실시하였다. 조사연구에 사용된 조사 도구는 사전 연구에서 사 용된 질문지의 내용을 필요에 따라 수정하여 개발되었다. 이 연구에서 자료 수집은 우편 발송 및 반송 방식을 채택하였으며 119부를 분석에 사용하였다. 이 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위하여 수집된 설문지는 빈도, 백분율, 평균 등의 기본 통계, 그리고 초등 진로전담교사로서의 역할과 직무에 대한 중요도 및 실제 수행 정도를 통한 Borich의 교육 요 구도 분석을 사용하였다. 통계 처리는 SPSS/WIN VER. 25 프로그램을 활용하였다. 이 연구의 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 진로전담교사제도의 개선이 필요하다. 진로전담교사 업무의 명확성을 제고하고, 전문적 진 로수업을 수행할 수 있도록 보장하는 규정을 마련해야 한다. 둘째, 진로전담교사의 전문성을 높여야 한다. 먼저 진로전담교사가 되기 전 진로교육에 대한 전 문성을 갖도록 하는 가이드가 필요하다. 셋째, 진로전담교사의 업무가 진로교육 중심이 아니다. 따라서 진도전담교사 업무가 그들의 전 문성이 보장될 수 있는 범위에서 보결 수업이 이루어질 수 있도록 제도를 개선해야 한다.
