Today’s preachers who are dealing with the postmodern audience are urged to use different ways of preaching. One of the most important challenges in the twenty-first century is to deliver God’s Word effectively and relevantly to the audiences living in a postmodern context. In order to do so, preachers strongly need to understand the changing culture and analyze the audience to the present age. This paper provides a basic understanding of postmodernism and homiletical alternatives on that. Firstly, this paper begins with the definition of postmodernism and historical background. a brief overviews of postmodernism. We will talk about the motives that postmodernism replaced modernism, and the changes that result from it and definition of it. Secondly, we examine the three features of the audiences of postmodern era. These audiences are living in postmodernism whose features are pragmatism, sensitivity, and pluralism (or relativism). Thirdly, we suggest the three concrete homiletical alternatives to the three features of postmodernism. These will get a hint from the sermon of Pastor Daniel Dong Won Lee, which is widely known as the exemplary preacher of Korean church. They are the use of the concrete application, preacher’s modest personality, and the use of the method of the voluntary application induction. Preachers should not miss the fact that postmodernism, which ignores and rejects absolute truth and the authority of preachers, not only threatens the Korean pulpit, but also provides an opportunity of blessing to develop and utilize concrete strategies beneficial to preaching.

우리 시대의 가장 중요한 도전 중 하나는 포스트모던 시대에 사는 사 람들에게 하나님의 말씀을 효과적이고 적절하게 전달하는 것이다. 이 를 위해 설교자는 변화하는 문화를 이해하고 현시대의 청중들을 분석 할 필요가 있다. 이 논문은 포스트모더니즘과 그에 대한 설교학적 대안에 대한 기본 적인 이해를 제공한다. 첫째, 이 논문은 포스트모더니즘의 역사적 배경 과 정의로 시작한다. 포스트모더니즘이 모더니즘을 대체한 동기와 그 것의 변화와 그것의 정의에 대해 이야기 할 것이다 둘째, 설교자가 자신이 설교할 대상인 청중들을 분석하는 것은 아주 중요한 사안인데, 그러기 위해선 포스트모더니즘 시대의 청중들이 어 떤 특징을 갖고 있는가에 대해서 구체적으로 살펴봄이 필수과제일 것 이다. 이들은 실용주의, 감성주의, 다원주의(또는 상대주의) 등이 그 특 징인 포스트모던 시대에 살아가는 사람들이다. 셋째, 포스트모더니즘 의 세 가지 특징에 대한 세 가지 구체적 설교학적 대안을 제시한다. 이 것들은 한국 교회의 모범적인 설교자로 널리 알려진 이동원 목사의 설 교에서 힌트를 얻을 것이다. 그 세 가지는 구체적인 적용 활용, 설교자 의 겸손한 인격, 그리고 자발적 적용 유도 방법의 활용이다. 절대 진리와 설교자들에 대한 권위를 무시하고 부정하는 포스트모더 니즘이 한국 강단을 위협하는 것으로 그치지 않고 설교에 유익한 구체 적인 전략을 개발하여 활용하게 해주는 축복의 기회도 가져다준다는 사실을 설교자들은 놓치지 말아야 한다.
