Unification is a process of understanding each other and moving toward reconciliation and integration. Consolidation is bound to take place at several levels. In this process, misunderstandings and conflicts can be newly brought up. This paper discusses the necessity of hospitality in the process of unification of the Korean Peninsula, and proposes it from a practical theological point of view. In evangelical theology, the discussion of hospitality has not been dealt with in an earnest way as compared to moral philosophy or progressive theology. This is because the concept of hospitality presupposes absolute acceptance and inclusion and tends to regard all violence and boundary as negative. In this paper, after introducing the general discussion about hospitality, I try to establish an evangelical theological hospitality with the aids of discussions of Miroslav Volf and Hans Boersma. In addition, this paper defines the two practical axes of hospitality in the aspect of evangelicalism as the penitential hospitality and the unifying hospitality, and based on this, the practice of hospitality for the age of unification is highlighted. The practice of hospitality should become a habit of mind in the process of integrating South and North Korea, and it will invite us to listen to each other as we are prior to judging and evaluating their counterparts. Through practice that overcomes exclusion and abhorrence in our society first (I call this ‘preemptive hospitality’), I think we can invite North Korea to join the practice of hospitality by making a change in human rights.

통일은 서로를 이해하며 화해와 통합으로 나아가는 과정이다. 통합 은 여러 단계에 걸쳐 진행될 수밖에 없다. 이 과정에서 오해나 갈등이 새롭게 부각될 수 있다. 본 논문은 한반도의 통일로 나아가는 통합의 과정에서 환대의 덕목이 필요함을 논하며, 이를 실천신학적 관점에서 제안하고자 한다. 복음주의 신학에서는 환대에 대한 논의를 도덕철학 이나 진보적 신학에 비해서 본격적으로 다루지 못해왔다. 환대라는 개 념이 절대적인 수용과 포용을 전제하고 모든 폭력과 경계를 부정적으 로 여기는 경향이 있기 때문이다. 본 논문에서는 환대에 대한 일반적 논의를 소개한 뒤, Miroslav Volf와 Hans Boersma의 논의를 통해 환 대를 복음주의적으로 정립하고자 한다. 또한 본 논문은 복음주의적 관 점에서 환대의 두 실천적 축을 참회적 환대와 연합적 환대로 정의하며, 이에 기초해서 통일의 시대를 위한 환대적 실천을 조명한다. 환대의 실 천은 남과 북의 통합 과정에서 마음의 습관으로 자리 잡아야 하며, 상 대를 판단하고 평가하기에 앞서 있는 그대로 들어주는 경청을 불러일 으키며, 우리 사회 안에서 먼저 배제와 혐오를 극복하는 실천(선제적 환대)을 통해 북한으로 하여금 인권 문제에 변화를 일으키는 환대의 실 천에 참여하도록 초대할 수 있다고 본다.
