The purpose of this study is to elucidate the relationship between vocational key competencies and employment of college graduates. The results of this study are expected to serve as a basis for the creation and operation of a college curriculum of vocational key competencies and as a guide to career development for the graduates. To achieve the purpose of the study, ten vocational key competencies were chosen as research variables, and hypotheses were formulated accordingly. The research hypotheses were tested using empirical data collected from 384 graduates of K College in Gyeonggi-do (204 of them are currently employed) in February 2018. The data were analyzed using IBM SPSS and MS Excel software packages. Research findings indicated that occupational ethics, interpersonal ability, and self-development ability were among the competencies seen as the most important in both the employed and unemployed groups. On the other hand, information and technology abilities were ranked lower in both groups. The employed group was found to be superior to the unemployed group with regards to ten vocational key competencies. The difference in the means of vocational key competencies between the two groups was statistically significant for mathematical ability, problem solving ability, self-development ability, organizational understanding ability, and interpersonal ability. However, information ability, communication ability, technical ability, resource management ability, and professional ethics were not statistically significant. The findings of this study are expected to be a cornerstone of the research on the relationship between vocational key competencies and employment as a performance measure. Furthermore, it will contribute to the expansion of the horizon and opportunities in the research on vocational key competencies. Our research results imply that it is imminent to overcome the limitations of the existing curriculum through an innovative liberal education program which is suited to the changes in the environment. A new perspective is required to cultivate talents whom our society needs.

본 연구의 목적은 대학생의 직업기초능력 수준과 취업 간의 관계를 조명하는데 있다. 연구결 과를 통해 직업기초능력의 교육과정 편성과 운영과 학생들의 진로지도를 위한 기초 자료를 제공 하는 데 있다. 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위해 직업기초능력 10개를 연구변수로 설정하고, 가설을 설정하였다. 연구가설을 검증하기 위하여 경기도 소재 K대학을 2018년 2월에 졸업한 총 384명( 취업자 204명, 미취업자 180명)의 직업기초능력 결과와 취업 현황을 SPSS 통계프로그램과 엑셀 프로 그램을 이용하여 분석하였다. 분석결과를 살펴보면, 취업자 그룹과 미취업자 그룹에서 직업윤리, 대인관계능력, 자기개발능력 순으로 높게 나타났다. 반면에 정보능력, 기술능력 순으로 낮게 나 타났다. 취업자 그룹은 미취업자 그룹 보다 직업기초능력 10개에서 우수한 것으로 나타났다. 두 그룹 간 직업기초능력의 평균 차이가 통계적으로 유의미한 것은 수리능력, 문제해결능력, 자기개 발능력, 조직이해능력, 대인관계능력이다. 그러나 정보능력, 의사소통능력, 기술능력, 자원관리능 력, 직업윤리는 통계적으로 유의미하지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과는 직업기초능력과 성과요인으로서 취업 간의 관계 연구에 초석이 될 것이다. 나아가 직업기초능력 연구의 폭을 확장 하는데 기여할 것이다. 시대의 변화에 걸맞은 교양교육을 통해 기존의 한계를 극복할 필요가 있 다. 그리고 사회가 요구하는 인재양성을 위하여 새로운 시각이 요구되는 시점이다.
