The purpose of this study is to understand the current state of science in general education domestically and to find a solution to the problems. For the study, we investigated the method and the proportion of science in general education completion through the handbook of 51 universities in Korea. In order to examine the current state of science in general education through analyzing contents after collecting the lecture plans of general education curriculum in the common liberal arts curriculum and to examine the attitudes and responses of the audience, We surveyed the subjects of science subjects in liberal education. Along with these two surveys, an expert group interview was conducted to collect relevant data and analyze them. As a result of the analysis, it was found that lack of objective orientation of science general education in the curriculum operation process, failure to comply with obligatory enrollment in science general education, absence of laboratory practice course and the effort for establishment of science literacy education system, lack of institutional capacity to strengthen the capacity of learning design and teaching profession etc. caused the problems. In order to improve this, it is necessary to supplement the compulsory system of science subject, strengthen the support for the development of general education for science curriculum.

본 연구는 국내 대학 과학교양교육 현황을 파악하고 문제점에 대한 개선 방안을 도출하기 위 해 이루어졌다. 연구를 위해 국내 51개 대학의 학사편람을 통해 과학교양 이수방식과 비중을 조 사하였다. 또한 공통 교양교육 과정 내 교양 과학 교과목의 강의계획서를 수집하여 교과목 유형 을 분류한 후 내용분석을 통해 과학교양교육의 현황을 검토하고 수용자의 태도와 반응을 살펴보 기 위해, 10개교의 2017년도 2학기 교양 과학 교과목 수강생들을 대상으로 설문조사를 진행하 였다. 이 두 조사와 함께, 전문가 그룹 인터뷰를 진행하여 관련 자료를 취합한 후 이를 분석하였 다. 분석 결과 교과목 운영과정에 교양교육의 목적지향성 반영 부족, 과학교양교과목 의무 이수 규정 부실, 과학교양 교과목 내 실험실습 과목 부재, 각 대학이 표방하는 특유의 정체성에 부합 하는 과학교양교육체계 구축을 위한 노력 부족, 학습 설계와 교수자의 역량을 강화하기 위한 제 도적 장치 미흡 등의 문제점이 드러났으며, 이에 대한 개선을 위해 과학 교과목 의무 이수 체계 를 보완하고, 과학교양 교과목 개발에 대한 지원을 강화해야하며 교과목 운영자 지원체계를 마 련해야한다는 방안을 제시하였다.
