The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between self-regulation and social development and to examine the mediation effects of hope in the relationship between self-regulation and social development. 352 elementary school students were sampled from four elementary schools in Sdoul. Structural Equation Modeling(SEM) and the Sobel test were employed to analyze data. The results of this study were as follows. First, self-regulation of elementary school students had a significant influence on social development. Second, hope had a significant mediation effect on the relationship between self-regulation and social development. This means that students who are highly self-regulated have a high level of social development and those who have low self-regulation but high hopes have a high level of social development. The results of this study are significant in that they confirmed the possibility of positive psychological intervention for social development and provided a basis for various positive psychological based programs for elementary school students.

이 연구는 초등학생의 자기조절과 사회성 발달간의 관계를 검증하고 자기조절과 사회성 발 달간의 관계에서 희망이 매개효과가 있는지 밝히고자 하였다. 이를 위해 서울시 소재 4개 초 등학교 6학년 학생 352명으로부터 수집된 자기조절, 희망, 사회성 발달 자료를 구조방정식과 Sobel test를 통하여 분석하였다. 자료 분석 결과 초등학생의 자기조절이 사회성 발달에 유의 미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났고, 초등학생의 자기조절과 사회성 발달간의 관계에서 희 망이 유의미한 매개효과를 갖는 것으로 검증되었다. 이는 자기조절 능력이 뛰어난 학생은 사 회성 발달 수준이 높고, 자기조절 능력이 낮아도 희망 수준이 높은 학생은 사회성 발달 수준 이 높다는 것을 의미한다. 본 연구의 결과는 사회성 발달을 위한 긍정심리학적 개입의 가능 성을 확인했다는 것과 앞으로 개발될 초등학생을 위한 다양한 긍정심리 기반 프로그램의 기 초를 제공했다는 점에서 그 의의가 있다.
