This study investigates whether the appearance satisfication would be effect on smartphone addiction in elementary school students. Further the study explores that basic psychological needs could be a mediation role between apperance satisficaion and smartphon addiction. For this purpose, 284 elementary school students in Gyeonggi-Do were sampled for correlation analysis, structural model test, and mediating effect test. The collected questionnaires were analyzed by correlation analysis and structural equation through AMOS and SPSS statistics program. The results of this study are as follows. First, there was a significant correlation between elementary school students' appearance satisfaction, basic psychological needs, and some sub-factors of smartphone addiction. Second, elementary school students' appearance satisfaction influenced smartphone addiction through basic psychological needs. We confirmed the suitability of the structural model. Third, The mediating effect of the basic psychological desire was significant, and the appearance satisfaction and the direct effect of the smartphone addiction also appeared, and the basic psychological desire in the relation of the appearance satisfaction of the elementary school student and the smartphone addiction showed partial mediation. The purpose of this study is to provide empirical basic data for developing education and counseling program for prevention of addiction to smartphone. Based on the results of this study, implications, limitations and suggestions were discussed.

본 연구는 초등학생의 외모만족도와 스마트폰 중독의 관계에서 기본심리욕구가 매개하는지 검증하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이를 위해 경기 지역에 재학중인 초등학교 5, 6학년 학생 284명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였으며, 수거된 설문지는 AMOS, SPSS 통계 프로그램을 통해 상관분석, 구조방정식을 실시하여 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 초등학생의 스마트폰 중독과 기본심리욕구, 외모만족도 간에는 통계적으로 유의미한 부적 상관이 있는 것으로 나타났으 며, 외모만족도와 기본심리욕구 간에는 유의미한 정적 상관이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 기본심 리욕구의 매개효과는 유의하였고, 외모만족도와 스마트폰 중독의 직접 효과도 함께 나타나 초등학생의 외모만족도와 스마트폰 중독의 관계에서 기본심리욕구는 부분 매개를 나타냈다. 본 연구는 스마트폰 중독 예방을 위한 교육 및 상담프로그램 개발을 위한 실증적인 기초 자 료를 제공하고자 하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 토대로 시사점, 한계 및 제언을 논의하였다.
