In this article, we focus on the three main points of the free semester system: career education, happiness education, and competency education. It is suggested that moral education should be sought in terms of competence education in terms of the identity of morality, the know-how of morality and community, and the physical conditions of the school scene. It is necessary for the career education to be implemented in the form of work experience, so it may be somewhat different from the nature of the moral education. Happiness education should be understood from the viewpoint of kind of educational philosophy. For the effective implementation of the moral education in free semester system, we proposed the operation of the classroom dedicated to moral education, the designation of dedicated teachers of moral education for free semesters, the development of educational contents that combine vocational experience education and vocational ethics education, and cooperation with local universities.

이 글에서는 자유학기제의 세 가지 지향점을 진로교육, 행복교육, 역량교육으로 구분하여 살펴본 후, 도덕과의 정체성, 도덕과 공동체가 쌓아 온 노하우, 학교 현장의 물리적인 조건 등을 고려했을 때, 역량교육의 차원에서 자유학기제 도덕수업이 모색될 필요가 있음을 주장하였다. 진로교육은 주로 직업체험의 형태로 구현될 필요가 있으므로 도덕 수업의 성격과 다소 괴리될 여지가 있으며, 행복교육은 구체적인 수업 내용을 담고 있기보다는 학생중심의 즐거운 수업이라는 일종의 교육철학적 관점에서 이해될 필요가 있기 때문이다. 그리고 자유학기제 도덕수업의 효과적 구현을 위해 도덕수업 전용 교실 운영, 자유학기 도덕수업 전담교사 지정 운영, 직업체험 교육과 직업윤리 교육을 접목한 교육 콘텐츠 개발, 지역 대학과의 협력 활성화 등을 제안하였다.
