The novel “Ford 1927” was published in May 1956 by Masaru Kobayashi. The problem of this book was noted as the “nearly the only talented new born of democratic literature” in the late 1950s, and even though it was in the context of literary writers representing the time, researchers representing Japan should “review” until 2008. The novel “Ford 1927” is a scar that dates back to the origins of the war that lasted until August 1945, adding a variety of historical imagination to the multi-layered space structure of Masaru Kobayashi. This creative act was intended to challenge the newly emerging postwar system, taking charge of the time of war that lasted from the time he was born to 1945, Masaru Kobayashi, the second ruler of colonial Joseon in 1927. Since some time ago, the term “Asia-Pacific War,” or 15-year-old war, has become more common. Given the fact that this situation is not very long ago, I would like to think that Masaru Kobayashi is responsible for a multi-layered literature project based on the existing term of Pacific War.

소설 ｢포드 1927｣은 고바야시 마사루가 1956년 시점에 다층적 시공간 구조에 다채로운 역사적 상상력을 가미해서 1945년 8월까지 이어졌던 전쟁의 기원 지점까지 거슬러 올라가 그 전쟁이 다양한 시공간 속에 남긴 상처와 기억을 상기시키는 텍스트이다. 이러한 창작행위는 1927년에 식민지 조선에서 태어난 식민자 2세 고바야시 마사루가 자신이 태어난 시점부터 1945년까지 이어졌던 전쟁의 시간을 총괄하면서 새롭게 등장한 전후 체제에 반문을 던지려는 것이었다. 어느 때부터 기존의 ‘태평양전쟁’이라는 용어를 비판적으로 상대화하면서 ‘아시아-태평양 전쟁, 혹은 15년 전쟁’이라는 용어와 인식이 보편화되고 있다. 이러한 상황이 그리 오래되지 않았다는 점에 비추어보면 고바야시 마사루가 소설 ｢포드 1927｣에서 보여주었던 1927년을 기점으로 한 다층적 시공간 구조와 역사적 상상력은 기존의 태평양전쟁이라는 용어에 기초한 의도된 역사적 기억의 제약과 그와 연동된 역사적 책임의 소거 작업에 매우 선구적으로 문제제기를 던진 역사적 상상력의 문학적 구현이라고 도 평가할 수 있겠다.
