This paper considered the recognition of physical anthropologist Kanaseki Takeo(1897-1983) who insisted on existence of ancient migrants from Korean Peninsula in exceptionally in 1950-60’s when Japanese academic world on the study of the origin of Japanese did not accept the existence of ancient migrants. He was a researcher with Christian spirit, democracy, and humanistic culture. But at the same time he was a researcher who was not entirely free from the influence of the state of affairs and supported racist eugenics which was prevalent at the time. In other words, it can be said that he was a researcher located in a gray zone. However, we should avoid only the errors that regards Kanasuki as the same level as researchers like Hasebe Kotondo and Kyono Kenji. They were researchers who used science as a tool of politics to forge doctrines to fit the time. The fact that Kanaseki was able to quickly focus on the Korean peninsler can be said that it was possible because there was universal insight and thought that was not fooled by the time. It can be said that Kanaseki was able to quickly focus on the Korean peninsula because he had the universal insight and thought that was not misled by the time.

이 글은 일본인의 기원연구사 중 한반도 도래인의 존재를 부정한 1950∼60년대 학계에서 이례적으로 그 존재를 주장했던 가나세케 다케오(金関丈夫)의 인식을 검토한 것이다. 그는 기독교 정신과 민주주의, 인본주의 교양을 지닌 연구자임에 틀림없지만 우생학과 같은 시국의 영향에서는 완전히 자유롭지 못한 학자였다. 말하자면 회색지대에 위치했던 연구자라 할 수 있다. 그러나 우리는 가나세키를 하세베 코톤도(長谷部言人)와 그의 스승인 기요노 겐지(清野謙次)와 같은 수준으로 보는 오류는 피해야 할 것이다. 그들은 시국에 맞게 학설을 날조할 정도로 학문을 정치의 종으로 삼은 연구자였다. 도래설이 제자리를 찾게 되는 때는 1990년대였지만, 그럼에도 불구하고 가나세키가 30년이나 일찍 한반도 도래인에 착안할 수 있었던 것은 시국에 흔들리지 않는 보편적 안목과 사상을 가지고 있었기 때문이다.
