This study aims to analyze the changes of Wittgenstein’s viewpoint on the understanding of the term ‘wonder’, and it wants to give an overview of Wittgenstein’s dynamic stream of thoughts on the meaning of language and behavior. In the logical thinking of the Tractatus, Wittgenstein’s wonder draws a boundary between the limitations of language and the world, and leads us to the ultimate goal of his philosophy through 'silence' about unspeakable mysteries. The wonder here means a contemplative ‘wonder as a mode of silence.’ However, Wittgenstein describes the wonders of the existence of the world by analogy with an 'Excellent Experience' in his writing "A Lecture on Ethics" and reveals the opportunity to gain linguistic access to mystical things provided that we look at the world as a miracle. The term 'wonder' here refers to 'wonder as a mode of communication'. It denotes an understanding of the ethical things which are subject to silence in relation to human life, history, and culture, and it is translated into an anthropological thinking of the language. This shift of the viewpoint on ‘wonder’ shows the originality and continuity of Wittgenstein’s philosophy in that it constitutes the beginning of a new tradition of encountering foreign cultures while acknowledging the old tradition of our cultural heritage. Ultimately the merit of this study would be to reveal a path of meaningful thinking which arises from the path to the liberation of the spirit of Wittgenstein. He, as a human being, initiated it by constantly seeking communication with the world through the establishment of a series of successive relationships leading to the concepts ‘wonder’, ‘silence’, ‘speaking’ and ‘doing.’

본 논문의 목적은 ‘놀라움’에 관한 비트겐슈타인의 관점의 변화를 분석하여 언어의 의미와 행위에 대한 그의 역동적인 사유의 흐름을 조망하는 것이다. 『논리철학논고』의 논리적 사유에서 ‘놀라움’은 언어와 세계의 한계를 경계 짓고, 말할 수 없는 신비로운 것들에 대해서는 침묵하는 철학의 궁극적인 목적으로 우리를 이끈다. 이때의 ‘놀라움’은 관조적인 ‘침묵으로서의 놀라움’을 의미한다. 그러나 비트겐슈타인은 「윤리학에 대한 강의」에서는 세계의 존재에 대한 놀라움을 ‘탁월한 경험’으로 비유적으로 기술하고 신비적인 것들에 대한 표현이 세계를 ‘기적’으로 볼 때 가능함을 밝힌다. 이때의 ‘놀라움’은 침묵의 대상이었던 윤리적인 것들을 인간 삶과 역사, 문화 등의 연관성에서 이해하는 ‘소통으로서의 놀라움’을 의미하고 이는 비트겐슈타인의 언어에 대한 사유가 인류학적 고찰방식으로 전환되는 시발점이 되고 있다. 이러한 ‘놀라움’에 대한 관점의 전환은 오래된 전통을 계승하면서 낯선 문화와의 만남 속에서 새로운 전통을 구성한다는 점에서 비트겐슈타인 철학의 독창성과 연속성을 보여준다. 궁극적으로 본 논문은 ‘놀라움’, ‘침묵하기’, ‘말하기’ 그리고 ‘행동하기’로 이어지는 일련의 연속된 관계들의 정립을 통해 끊임없이 세상과의 소통을 모색했던 인간 비트겐슈타인의 정신의 해방의 길을 쫒아가는 의미 있는 사유의 길이 될 것이다.
