The purpose of this study is to identify the nature and significance of the Yeongdong Donghak Peasant Revolution from the viewpoint of human geography. Human geography is a discipline that creates human value of a particular area from the horizon of understanding of the past, present and future. The contents of the study are as follows. First of all, I presented the human activities of this area focusing on the geographical origin of Yeongdong and the musical spirit of Park, Yeon. Next, the mentality of Yeongdong donghakpeasant revolution was presented through analysis of participants. Finally, we discussed the possibility of the presentation of Donghak from the perspective of glocalization of it. The results of this study are as follows. First, human geography is a way to recognize the human assets of the area in a holistic context. Second, in terms of the origin of the Yeongdong nomination, the music spirit of Park, Yeon and Donghak thought, Yeongdong is a land of serving and living. Third, the spirit of the Donghak revolution is life, peace, and equality from the point of view of the Three Worship Thought(三敬思想) and Sa In Yea Cheon(事人如天). Fourth, in order to spread Donghak, it is required to search for academic methodology that can reflect future changes, collaboration with local history research, and branding method of Donghak.

이 연구의 목적은 영동 동학농민혁명의 성격과 의의를 인문지리학의 관점에서 규명하는 데 있다. 인문지리학은 과거와 현재 그리고 미래의 상호연관된 이해의 지평에서 특정 지역의 인문적 가치를 창출하는 학문이다. 연구 내용은 다음과 같다. 먼저 영동의 인문지리학과 관련된 내용으로 영동 지역의 지명 유래와 난계 박연의 음악 정신을 중심으로 이 지역 출신의 인문적 활동을 제시하였다. 다음으로 영동 동학농민혁명의 정신을 참여자 분석을 통해서 제시하였다. 마지막으로 동학의 글로컬리제이션의 맥락에서 동학의 현재화 가능성을 논의하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 먼저, 인문지리학은 그 지역의 인문적 자산을 총체적인 맥락에서 인식할 수 있는 방법이다. 둘째, 영동 지명의 유래, 박연의음악 정신, 그리고 동학 사상으로 볼 때 영동은 모심과 살림의 땅이다. 셋째, 동학 혁명의 정신은 삼경과 사인여천의 관점에서 볼 때 생명과 평화 그리고평등이다. 넷째, 동학을 확산하기 위해서는 미래의 변화를 반영할 수 있는 학문 방법론의 모색과 지역사 연구와의 협업, 그리고 동학의 브랜드화 방법 등이 요구된다.
