Explaining, one of various speaking method that we use to communicate, is major language activity th at requires logical and systematic communication of meaning in a sense of constructing new informatio n and make listener to understand which is essential form of speaking that is required in daily life to have communication of accurate knowledge and persuading power that listener demands. Research on t his kind of pragmatic ability or expository discourse had begun comparatively later than research on tal es and conversation, research on expository discourse characteristics of children with borderline intellect ual functioning language disorder along with explaining had not been done. This lack of research is res ulted as difficulty in understanding expository discourse characteristics of children with borderline intell ectual functioning language disaorder and other characteristics of language. This causes difficulty in acc urate analyse and appropriate approach even though the group that expository discourse characteristics of child with borderline intellectual functioning language disorder is included is high risk group that ex periences difficulty in social environment and school life. Accordingly, in this research analysed what symptoms the expository discourse characteristics of chil d with borderline intellectual functioning language disorder shows and error type of expository discours e characteristics of child with borderline intellectual functioning language disability. Here is the result o f the research. First, as a result of analysis in ability of expository disclosure pragmatic communication ability between ordinary child and child with borderline intellectual functioning language disorder, it sho wed significant difference which showed that children with borderline intellectual functioning language disorder uses different pragmatic explaining functions from ordinary child. Second, as a result of analys is in what pragmatic communication characteristics does children with borderline intellectual functioning language disorder shows in expository disclosure, children with borderline intellectual functioning langua ge disability showed difference not only in frequency of error occurrence but also in qualitative aspect. In conclusion, when children with borderline intellectual functioning language disorder is compared to ordinary children in same age range, significant difference was observed in expository disclosure in err or type and qualitative aspects. It can be said that it is meaningful as currently, no prior research indic ating Expository discourse characteristics of child with borderline intellectual functioning language disab ility and research that explains circumstances will be helpful in understanding of education and maladju stment and further, in appropriate mediation.

본 연구는 경계선지능 언어장애 아동들의 설명담화를 보다 면밀히 살펴봄으로써 화용 및 오류 특성을 검토하 고 이를 의사소통 교육에 적용하고자 하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 P시 및 K도에 거주하고 있는 일반 초등 학교 1∼2학년 경계선지능 언어장애(BI-LI)아동 10명과 언어연령이 일치하는 일반아동 10명, 총 20명을 대상으로 그림 설명하기 과제를 실시하였다. 아동들이 표현한 설명담화에 대해 담화의 질, 설명담화의 이야기문법, 설명의 구체성 및 적합성 등 3가지 영역으로 분석하였다. 하위영역으로는 전반적 인상, 전체를 대표하는 문장의 시작, 전 체적인 흐름, 전경과 배경, 핵심 및 시작 사건과 결과에 대한 설명, 독립적인 인물의 행동, 인물 간의 행동, 호칭 및 명칭, 표정과 기분․감정, 비유적 표현을 통한 설명(직유), 원인 및 이유를 통한 설명(추론), 간접화법 또는 다 른 표현방법의 설명, 효율성 측면의 설명, 단어 사용의 맥락 적합성, 모호한 부분의 설명으로 총 15문항에 대해 체크하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 경계선지능 언어장애아동들은 일반아동에 비해 설명담화의 화용적 능력에서 유의 미하게 낮은 능력을 나타냈다. 이는 화용적 측면에서 볼 때 경계선지능 언어장애 아동들이 일반아동들과는 다른 설명하기 기능을 사용하고 있다는 것을 설명해 준다. 둘째, 경계선지능 언어장애 아동들이 설명담화에서 어떠한 화용적 특성을 보이는지 살펴본 결과 경계선지능 언어장애 아동들은 일반아동들에 비해 오류 유형의 출현 빈도 뿐 아니라 내용에서도 질적 차이를 보였다. 이러한 결과는 그들이 나타내는 학습 및 부적응에 대한 이해와, 경계 선지능 언어장애 아동들의 조기 선별 및 적절한 중재방향에 대한 기초자료로 적용될 수 있다.
