The preacher can not but agonize about the fact that despite the preacher’s delivering of His Word, there is no change in the lives of the audience. While pondering over how to preach to change the lives of the audience, the author came to focus on cognitive science and memory. The author studied the process of how memory was stored when the audience listened to a sermon. Information received through sensory organs enters working memory through sensory memory. Only sensory memory which receives attention converts into working memory. Working memory retrieves past experiences from long-term memory and combines this with similar experiences among current information and stores it into long-term memory. Studying the parables of Jesus through this memory storage process revealed that Jesus thoroughly delivered Words that entered the longterm memory of the audience, which moved the audience and changed their lives. The parables of Jesus was enough to attract the attention of the audience. He also spoke through narrative or indirect experiences so His Word would passively and automatically be stored in long-term memory. By repeatedly preaching through parables, Jesus was able to turn episodic memory into semantic memory and then convert this into procedural memory, which then changed the lives of the audience. Therefore, like the parables of Jesus, the preacher needs to preach with an omnibus format when concentrating the attention of the audience and delivering a narrative sermon.

설교자는 하나님의 말씀을 선포함에도 불구하고 청중들의 삶에 변 화가 나타나지 않음으로 고심하지 않을 수 없다. 어떻게 하면 청중의 삶을 변화시킬 수 있는 설교를 할 수 있을까? 고민하는 중에 저자는 인 지 과학과 기억에 주의를 하게 되었다. 청중들이 말씀을 들을 때 어떠 한 과정을 통해 그들의 기억에 저장되는가에 대하여 관심을 가지고 연 구하게 되었다. 감각기관을 통해 들어온 정보는 감각 기억을 통해 작업 기억으로 들어간다. 그러나 감각 기억은 오직 주의하는 부분만 작업 기 억으로 전환하게 된다. 작업 기억은 장기 기억 속에 들어가 있는 과거 의 경험을 인출하여 자신의 정보 중에서 유사경험을 결합시켜 다시 장 기 기억으로 저장하게 되어 있다. 이러한 장기 기억으로 들어가는 과정을 통해 예수님의 비유를 연구 해 보면 예수님은 철저하게 청중들의 장기 기억에 들어갈 수 있는 말씀 을 선포하셨기 때문에 청중들은 감동하고 그 삶에 변화가 나타나게 되 었음을 볼 수 있다. 예수님의 비유는 청중의 주의를 끌기에 충분하였 다. 또한 청중의 장기 기억 속에 수동적으로 자동입력 될 수 있도록 내 러티브 즉 간접 경험을 통해 말씀하셨다. 예수님은 비유설교를 계속적 으로 반복해서 선포하심으로 청중들의 일화 기억을 의미 기억으로 전환시킬 수 있었고 나아가서 절차 기억으로 변환시켜 삶을 변화시킬 수 있었다. 그러므로 설교자는 예수님의 비유 설교와 같이 청중들의 주의 를 집중시키고 내러티브설교를 할 때 옴니버스 구성을 가지고 선포할 필요가 있다.
