The purpose of this study was to reinforce the educational functions and to improve the dysfunction by exploring the various experiences and internalized values of the female students participating in the campus athletic competitions. We selected seven female sophomores of A University of Education who showed different preferences about the physical education and heterogeneous characteristics in participation. In-depth research was carried out for seven months. Data were collected from individual interviews and our journals and essays. With Strauss and Corbin (1998)’s coding analysis based on the analysis of grounded theory, we performed analysis and interpretation. As results, the experiences of participating in campus athletic competitions of female students can be largely divided into positive and negative experiences. Positive experiences included watching games, enjoying exciting culture for cheering, having a variety of spectacles and amusements, and broadening horizons about sports or culture. Also, through physical activities, they can cultivate their self-esteem or self-efficacy either directly or indirectly, and they also exhibit a strong sense of belonging and of fellowship. Negative experiences included facing some unpleasant events happening around being mobilized forcibly to the competitions and being sacrificed at the feast of the mainstream leading those athletic competitions, for instance, those that are good at sports, powerful seniors, or the deepened course of physical education. Finally we suggested some detailed ways like diversifying athletic competition events or programs.

본 연구는 교육대학교 교내 체육대회에 참가하는 여학생들의 다양한 경험과 내면화되는 가치를 탐색하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 체육과에 대한 선호도와 참여 활동이 이질적인 A교육대학교의 2학년 여학생 7명을 연구참여자로 선정하여 약 7개월간 개인면담, 연구자의 저널, 에세이 등의 자료를 수집하였으며 근거이론 분석에 바탕을 둔 Strauss와 Corbin(1998)의 코딩 분석 기법에 따라 분석과 해석의 과정을 거쳤다. 연구결과, 교육대학교 여학생들 의 체육대회에 대한 경험은 크게 긍정적 경험과 부정적 경험으로 범주화되었다. 긍정적 경험으로는 경기 관람 및 재미있는 응원 문화를 통해 스포츠 자체나 문화에 대한 새로운 안목을 가지게 된 점, 신체활동을 통해 직⋅간접적 으로 자존감이나 자기효능감이 함양된 점, 심화과정 구성원과의 유대감과 소속감이 발현된 점으로 나타났고, 부정 적 경험으로는 교내 체육대회 행사에 강제적으로 동원되는 일, 소수를 위한 잔치에 자신이 희생된다는 인식 등으로 나타났다.
