This study was to investigate the effects of the music therapy using instruments on cognitive function, elderly depression, and life satisfaction of the elders with dementia symptoms. elder who doubted by dementia are the most urgent and effective dementia prevention and coping program. the experimental group and the waiting control group were administered to the elderly in the G city of Gangwon-do. Both group were measured the cognitive function(MMSE-K), elderly depression(GDSSF-K), and life satisfaction before and after music therapy program. Experimental group participated in music therapy program using instruments for a total of 12 sessions, once a week for 40 minutes, and for 3 months from January 2017. Waiting control group did not participate any other programs related with dementia and cognitive. Independent sample t-test was conducted to test the group homogeneity, and the effect of music therapy program using instruments was tested through covariance analysis(ANCOVA) because some differences were found among the variables at before. As a result, music therapy using instruments program improved cognitive function, elderly depression, and life satisfaction. This suggests that music therapy using instruments may be effective as a dementia prevention program for the elderly with dementia doubted.

본 연구는 치매 예방 및 대처 프로그램을 실시하기에 가장 시급하며 효과적인 대상군인 치매 의심 노인에게 악기 중심 음악치료 활동을 시행하여 인지기능과 노인우울, 생활만족도에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가를 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 강원도 G시에 소재한 경로당 노인을 대상으로 실험집단과 대기통제집단을 구성하여 사전과 사후에 각각 인지기능(MMSE-K), 노인우울, 생활만족도를 측정하였다. 실험집단은 2017년 1월부터 3개월 동안 주 1회, 매 회당 40분씩 총 12회기 동안 악기 중심의 음악치료 프로그램에 참여하였고, 대기통제집단은 실험집단과 동일하게 경로당 프로그램을 진행하되, 치매와 관련된 다른 프로그램은 시행하지 않았다. 집단 간 사전 동질성 검증을 위해 독립표본 t-test를 실시하였고, 일부 변인들에서 집단 간 사전 차이가 나타났으므로, 공변량분석(ANCOVA)을 통해 악기 중심 음악치료 활동의 효과를 검증하였다. 연구 결과, 악기 중심 음악치료 활동은 인지기능, 노인우울, 생활만족도를 모두 개선시키는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 악기 중심 음악치료가 치매 의심 노인을 위한 치매 예방 프로그램으로 효과적일 수 있다는 것을 시사한다.
