The purpose of this study is to confirm empirical perceptions of art therapists about language use in art therapy using Concept Mapping Method. For this, the study pursued the following three research questions: what are the contents?; what are the dimensions and clusters?; and what is the importance of contents? Incorporating concept mapping as a research method, this research was conducted by the following research procedure. Twelve art therapists were selected as research participants who were interviewed individually through specified questions. From the analysis of interview statements, 60 key sentences were derived. Then they were later categorized based on the semantic similarity among statements and the importance of contents was assessed for each sentence. According to the results of multidimensional scaling and cluster analysis, the key sentences were divided into two axis and six clusters according to semantic similarity, and the two axis are 'client-therapist' and 'therapeutic effect/insight and recognition - treatment process/work production.' and six clusters are 'Perception and insight', 'Artwork exploration', 'Therapist’s competence', 'Clients as treatment subjects', 'Promotion of artwork production', and 'Language use level and scope'. As a result, the art therapists combined the art production and language in the overall process of the therapy session, and perceived its utility and limitations. This study has its significance in that the usage aspect and meaning of the language used in art therapy was explored by empirically confirming the perception of art therapists regarding the language used in art therapy.

본 연구의 목적은 개념도 연구법(Concept Mapping Method)을 활용하여 미술치료에서 언어사용에 대한 미술치료사들의 경험적인 인식을 확인하는데 있다. 연구문제는 미술치료에서의 언어사용에 대한 미술치료사의 인식의 내용과 차원, 군집은 무엇인지, 그리고 내용상의 중요도는 어떠한지를 밝히는 것이다. 연구대상은 미술치료 현장에서 활동하는 12명의 미술치료사들로, 개별 인터뷰를 실시하여 60개의 핵심진술문을 추출하고 내용의 유사성에 따라 분류한 후 각 진술문의 중요도를 평정하도록 하였다. 다차원척도분석 결과, ‘내담자-치료사’와 ‘치료효과/통찰과 인식-치료과정/작품제작’의 2개의 차원으로, 군집분석의 결과, 6개의 군집으로 나뉘었으며, 각각의 군집을 1. 인식과 통찰, 2. 작품의 탐색, 3. 치료사 역량, 4. 치료주체로서의 내담자, 5. 작품제작의 촉진, 6. 언어 사용수준과 범위로 명명하였다. 연구결과, 미술치료사들은 치료 회기의 전반적인 과정에서 미술제작과 언어를 결합하여 활용하고 있으며, 그 효용성과 한계에 대한 인식을 함께 하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구는 미술치료에서 사용하는 언어에 대한 미술치료사들의 인식을 경험적으로 확인하여 미술치료에서 사용되는 언어의 사용 양상과 의미에 대하여 탐색하였다는 점에서 의의를 가진다.
