The purpose of this paper is to examine the removal verb ‘suteru(throw away)’ and ‘beolida(throw away)’ from a contrastive linguistic point of view. The findings in this study are as follows : Firstly, the meaning of a simple verb ‘beolida’〈je gusil-eul moshage hada(spoil;inhure;impair)〉is not implicit in the verb ‘suteru’ while the verbs such as ‘kowasu(injure), sokonau(lose), dainasinisuru(spoil) and dameninaru(spoil)’ can be taken as a corresponding form. Secondly, between the compound noun ‘~sute’ and it’s literal translation ‘~beolim’, the former is more frequently used than the latter. Thirdly, the compound verb ‘~suteru’ is more productive than ‘~beolida’, and compound verb such as ‘yaki・suteru(burn up)’ corresponds to verb phrase ‘tae-wo・beolida(burn up)’ in Korean. Finally, the examples of ‘~te・suteru’ as an auxiliary verb were found in the first half of the 13th century or the second half of the 14th century, while those of ‘~eo・beolida’ as an auxiliary verb has been available since 15th century. The former usage seemed to have gradually been superseded by ‘~te・simau’ between the late 14th and late 17th centuries. As a result, no equal correspondence is established between the auxiliary verb combination ‘~eo・beolida’ and ‘~te・suteru’ in modern languages.
