Over the past 20 years since the beginning of the Mongolian revival in 1990, Mongolian mission has achieved a remarkable external growth in a short time. However, since 2010, the church growth of Mongolian mission is sharply decreasing thus ringing an alarm to the mission itself. At the center of the fundamental problem is the unbiblical worship that is affected by church music. For Mongolian who love much, church music has become a good tool for mission and has led to the external growth of the church. However, unfortunately, church music is used without appropriate theological education, leading the Mongolian church to false spirituality where God does not exist, to a shamanistic catharsis which pursues self-satisfaction. Therefore, many Mongolian churches that place the center of their faith in self-satisfaction are collapsing like a castle built on sand. However, the Mongolian church can be reborn as a healthy church that revives both internally and externally through proper education of worship and the theology of church music. Just as church music was the driving force behind the external revival of the Mongolian church, the proper application of church music in worship will change the Mongolian church, which has lost the balance and vitality due to the catharsis worship of shamanism. In addition, we will reap the fruits of mission by rejoicing God who is our life’s ultimate purpose and by dedicating for the glory of God. As John Piper pointed out, appropriate theological education of church music will reveal the glory of God by being the fuel for mission, and It will be an efficient mission strategy that leads Mongolian churches which are in its period of decline to internal revivals. Thus, the Mongolian mission of the Korean church will be able to achieve a paradigm shift from quantitative to qualitative missions. The purpose of this paper is to examine the impact of church music that has effected on the rapid growth of the Mongolian church in the last 20 years since 2010; to diagnose the current state of decline since 2010; and to build up a healthy church that grows internally. As a result, this paper present a proper theological education of church music as an effective strategy for the Mongolian church mission.

몽골의 부흥기가 시작되는 지난 1990년 이래 20년간, 몽골 선교는 단시간에 세계가 주목할 만한 외적 성장을 이루었다. 그러나 2010년 이후 몽골 선교는 교회 성장의 급격한 하락세를 보이며 선교에 경종을 울리고 있다. 근본적인 문제의 중심에는 교회음악의 영향을 받는 비성경적인 예배가 있다. 음악을 사랑하는 몽골인 들에게 교회음악은 선교의 좋은 도구가 되어 교회의 외적인 성장을 견인했다. 하지만 공교롭게도 교회음악은 적절한 신학교육 없이 사용되어지므로 몽골 교회를 하나님이 아닌 샤머니즘적 카타르시스의 자기만족을 추구하는 잘못된 영성으로도 인도했다. 그래서 신앙의 중심을 자기만족의 감정에 두고 있는 많은 몽골교회가 마치 모래 위에 쌓은 성처럼 허망하게 무너져 가고 있는 것이다. 하지만 이제라도 예배와 교회음악 신학의 적절한 교육 선교를 통해 몽골 교회는 내적 부흥은 물론 외적으로도 다시금 부흥하는 건강한 교회로 거듭날 수 있다. 교회음악이 몽골교회의 외적부흥의 견인차였던 것처럼, 예배에서의 바른 교회음학적 적용은 샤머니즘의 카타르시스적 예배로 균형을 잃고 생명력을 잃어가는 몽골 교회를 새롭고 생명력 있게 변화시킬 것이다. 또한 인생의 궁극적인 목적인 하나님을 즐거워하며 하나님의 영광을 위해 헌신하므로 선교적 열매를 거두게 될 것이다. 교회음악의 적절한 신학적 교육은 존 파이퍼의 지적처럼 예배가 선교의 연료가 되어 하나님의 영광을 드러내며 오늘날 쇠퇴기에 접어든 몽골교회를 내적부흥으로 인도하는 효율적인 선교전략이 될 것이다. 그럼으로써 한국 교회의 몽골 선교는 양적인 선교로부터 질적인 선교로의 패러다임의 전환을 이룰 수 있을 것이다. 본 논문은 2010년을 기점으로 지난 20년여 년 간 세계선교계를 주목하게 했던 몽골교회의 급격한 성장에 미친 교회음악의 영향력을 살펴본 후, 2010년 이후 오늘날까지 급격한 쇠퇴의 길을 가고 있는 몽골교회를 진단하고 나아가 내적으로 성장하는 건강한 교회로 세워 나갈 효율적인 방안으로서 교회음악의 적절한 신학교육을 통한 몽골선교의 전략을 제시하는데 목적이 있다.
