A Study on the World Perception of the Marginality in Gi Hyeongdo’s Poetry

- This study aims to analyze Gi Hyeongdo’s poems from the view point of world perception of marginality. In this paper, I define Gi Hyeongdo’s ambivalent consciousness as the world perception of a marginal being`s identity. Also, I expect to be able to explain the world perception of this poet by expanding the marginal man theory. Marginal man is generally understood to be hybrid entities in a multicultural context, and the marginal man theory is also useful in explaining the world perception of the self experiencing conflict and confusion between opposing or heterogeneous domains. Gi Hyeongdo’s poems are framing the inside of those who are afraid of choice or hesitate in the boundaries of this and the other. For example, the poems of this poet show the attitude of standing at the boundaries of reality and ideals, ideologies and behaviors, hopes and despair, secrets and plazas. These paradoxical perceptions show the paradigm of a tragic world view. A tragic world view takes on a paradoxical attitude of 'positive and also negative' to the world as an attitude that human beings can think about in the contradictory two demands of the truth of the self and the falsehood of the unacceptable world. Gi Hyeongdo’s work can be read by the internal anguish of the self, hesitating at the boundary between here and there, without participating in any particular camp or claim. Why is Gi Hyeongdo’s poetry read over and over again despite his aesthetic incompleteness? It is probably due to the aesthetic modernity preoccupied by the world perception of marginality and inner anguish.

- 이 연구는 기형도의 시세계를 경계의 세계 인식이라는 관점에서 조명하 고 있다. 이는 시인의 짧은 생애와 갑작스러운 죽음으로 인해 촉발된, 신화 화에 가까운 문학외적 관심에서 벗어나 기형도의 시세계에 대한 내재적 접 근의 일환으로 비롯된 것이다. 기형도의 세계 인식을 설명하기 위해서는 이 른바 경계인(境界人, marginal man) 이론을 확대 적용하는 것이 좋을 듯하다. 경 계인이란 일반적으로 다중 문화 속의 혼종적 존재로 파악하는 것이 일반적 이지만, 대립적이거나 이질적인 영역 사이에서 갈등과 혼란을 겪는 자아의 세계 인식을 설명하는 데도 유용하다. 기형도의 시들은 대체로 이와 같이 대 립적이거나 이질적인 경계에 선 자아의 세계 인식에 비추어 읽을 수 있다. 이러한 기형도의 세계 인식을 잘 보여주고 있는 작품이 바로 「입 속의 검 은 잎」이다. 이 작품은 이쪽과 저쪽의 경계에서 선택을 두려워하는 자의 내 면을 형상화하고 있다는 점에서 기형도의 시세계를 관통하는 작품으로 읽 을 수 있다. 이 작품에 형상화되어 있듯이 가령 현실과 이상, 이념과 행동, 희망과 절망, 밀실과 광장 등의 경계에서 서성거리는 태도를 보여주는, 경계 의 세계 인식은 기형도 시세계를 지탱한다. 이러한 태도에 비추어 보면 기 형도 시에서 빈번하게 ‘희망’이라는 시어가 나타나면서도 그것이 그리 낙관 적이지 못하며, 오히려 포기나 체념의 반어로 읽히는 연유도 짐작할 수 있 다. 그리고 이러한 역설적 인식은 비극적 사고와 세계 인식의 전형을 보여 준다. 기형도의 시는 특정의 진영이나 주장에 몸담기보다는 이쪽과 저쪽의 경계에 서서 서성거리거나 머뭇거리는 자아의 내적 고뇌로 읽을 수 있다. 기형도의 시가 미학적으로 미완이면서도 끝없이 다시 읽히는 이유는 그 경 계에서의 내적 고뇌가 시대를 초월하여 절실한 공감의 정서를 불러일으키기 때문이다.

- 한국문예창작학회(The Society of Korean Literary Creative Writing)는 한국 문학의 새 지평을 열기 위해 문예창작 이론과 문예교육 이론을 연구 계발하여 문 예창작의 새로운 방향을 제시하고자 조직한 학술단체입니다. 전국 대학과 대학원 문예창작 관련학과의 전·현직 전임교수·겸임(초빙)교수· 강 사·대학원 재학 이상자 및 문예창작인들이 회원으로 활동하고 있습니다. 학회의 목적에 적극적으로 동의하는 문학 관련 단체나 문학창작 동호인도 준회원으로 참 여하고 있습니다. 연 2회 학회지를 발간해 학문적 기반을 닦고 있으며, 정기적으로 학술 세미나 와 해외 문학 심포지엄 등 학술 발표회를 개최하여 학문적 교류와 토론의 장을 넓히고 있습니다. 한편으로, 문예창작 캠프·문학기행 등의 창작교육 활동과 창작 학습 행사를 수 시로 진행하면서, 창작·창작이론·창작교육에 관한 활동의 범위를 넓히고 있습니다. 별도로, 문예창작 교육을 받은 문예창작학도들의 진로 개발을 위해 '문예교육지도 교사 자격 시험'도 운영하고 있습니다. The Society of Korean Literary Creative Writing is a pure academic association for the literary cretive writing, and was organized on November 11, 2001 for the purpose of presenting the new direction of literary creative writing by studying all the methods to activate and develop the theories of literary creative writing and its education. Our society is composed of professors or ex-professors, some invited professor, lecturers, graduate students of the dept. of literary creative writing as regular members, and the persons interested in our program as associative members. Our society holds an annual academic meeting-- literary symposium, literary creative writing seminar-- and publishes the journal of our society and our members' anthology of literary works. Added to these, our society has already started a new project to open the way for our literary juniors by providing them with a certificate as a leader and holding a forum for literary creative writing.
