This study suggests the importance of cognitive academic Korean education for children from multi-cultural families and promotes the development of Korean language education to be used in actual classes. In order to achieve this, it is necessary to first examine the concepts and components of cognitive academic Korean. Cognitive academic Korean language ability is considered to be a necessary communication skill in studying the contents of the various subject in the school setting. In addition, since cognitive academic Korean can lead to the development of linguistic, academic, and socio-cultural factors based on cognitive elements, it is decided that cognitive academic Korean education should utilize cognitive factors. Through the discussion thus far, the developmental principles of cognitive academic Korean class have been examined, and I propose that the structure of the units based on these developmental principles should be composed via a three step model consisting of: noticing, understanding, and application. In this model for scientific subjects, ‘noticing’ is a step to finding the exploratory ability, ‘understanding’ is a step to explore in order to improve cognitive ability based on academic content knowledge, and ‘application’ is a step to apply exploratory ability to a person’s life and culture. This unit composition model was applied to cognitive academic Korean for science subjects and an actual unit structure was configured.

본 연구는 다문화 배경 아동을 대상으로 하는 한국어 교육에서 학습 한국어 능력을 신장할 수 있는 수업 설계 방안을 제시하는 것을 목표로 한다. 학습자들의 학습 한국어 능력을 구성하는 요소는 인지, 학문, 언어, 사회문화적 요소로 나누어 볼 수 있는데 교실 수업에서 학습 한국어 능력을 효과적으로 증진하기 위해서는 수업이 ‘인지’ 요소를 중심으로 꾸려질 필요가 있다고 판단했다. 따라서 ‘인지’ 요소를 중심으로 수업의 모형을 ‘발견 → 이해 → 적용’의 3단계로 구안하였고 실제 학습 한국어 수업은 과학 교과를 대상으로 하였다. 과학 교과의 특성을 반영하여 ‘발견’ 단계에서는 학습자들이 교과 학습 시 필요한 인지 능력을 키우는 데 필요한 ‘탐구’ 기능을 탐색하게 하였다. 다음으로 ‘이해’ 단계에서 교과 내용의 이해를 바탕으로 ‘발견’ 단계에서 학습한 탐구 기능과 관련된 의사소통능력을 향상시키도록 하였다. 마지막으로 ‘적용’ 단계에서는 학습한 탐구 기능을 자신의 삶과 문화, 즉 다양한 학습 영역, 교과 영역에 적용해 보도록 한다.
