The purpose of this paper is to study and analyze social cooperatives, a new form of cooperative, from the perspective of Unification Thought. Based on this, the study seeks to analyze the value and significance of social cooperatives in connection with the gradual realization of Co-Livingism, which aims for a horizontal economy based on God’s true love. A social cooperative is a social economic organization established to create jobs for the disadvantaged and provide social services needed within the local community. Unlike a regular cooperative which prioritizes meeting the common needs of its members, a social cooperative has a stronger non-profit and public nature as its fundamental purpose lies in the realization of social values. Hence, a social cooperative can be said to be ideal in realizing an economy of true love that Unification Thought aims for – an economy that seeks for joint ownership, love for neighbors, protection of the social disadvantaged, etc. Unification Thought fundamentally aims for the idea of joint ownership, which believes everything God gave humans including the creation and all goods, are His gifts to all people, and also aims for a horizontal economy in which wealth and goods are equally distributed through reasonable possession based on the conscience. From this perspective, this paper concludes that a social cooperative is significant as an actual organization that can realize, even if partially, the ideal of Unification Thought within our present economy.

본 논문의 목적은 협동조합의 새로운 형태인 사회적 협동조합을 통일사상적 관점에서 분석 하고 연구하는 것이다. 이를 통해 하나님의 참사랑에 기반 한 수평적 경제를 지향하는 통일사 상의 공생주의를 실현해 나가는데 있어서 사회적 협동조합이 갖는 가치와 의미를 분석해 보고 자 한다. 사회적 협동조합은 취약계층을 위한 일자리 창출, 지역 공동체에 필요한 사회서비스를 제 공하기 위해 설립된 사회적 경제조직이다. 조합원들이 갖는 공통의 필요를 충족시키는데 일차 적 목적이 있는 협동조합과 달리 사회적 협동조합은 사회적 가치 실현에 근본목적을 두기 때문 에 비영리적, 공익적인 성격이 더욱 강하다. 이러한 사회적 협동조합은 통일사상이 지향하는 공동소유, 이웃사랑, 사회적 약자 보호 등의 참사랑의 경제를 구현하는데 이상적이라고 생각 된다. 통일사상은 모든 재화와 만물은 하나님이 인간에게 주신 공동의 선물이라는 공유사상과 양심에 기초한 적정소유를 통해 물질과 부가 평등하게 분배되는 수평적인 경제를 지향한다. 그 런 점에서 사회적 협동조합은 현실경제에서 통일사상의 이상을 부분적으로나마 실현해 나갈 수 있는 실천조직으로 유의미하다고 판단된다.
