Surprisingly enough, the very first major publication of Hannah Arendt, the most original political theorist cum philosopher of 20th century, turned out to be an analysis of European realpolitik. It neither had solid theory of international relations nor offered a systematic description of European history, but it certainly was successful in framing the political discourse of ‘totalitarianism’. Arendt then moved on to carry out various researches on political theory and political philosophy and hardly mentioned any concerns of international politics. However, the Arendtian 'post- nation-state' related political concepts have gained currency of late with the deepening globalization, ever-repeating political and economic crisis, rapidly growing migration rates and troubled minority groups. Hence, in this paper, I shall try to bring out what meaningful theoretical contributions that Arendt's political thought concerning human rights, nomadic polis, and performative action could possibly make for our global politics today.

20세기가 낳은 가장 독창적인 정치이론가이자 정치철학자였던 한나 아렌트의첫 번째 저작『전체주의의 기원』은 놀랍게도 유럽의 현실정치에 관한 분석서이다. 그 책은 어떤 견고한 국제정치 이론이나 체계적인 역사 기술방식도 제시하지않았지만 ‘전체주의’ 정치 담론을 프레임화하는 데 확실히 성공했다. 책의 출간 이후 아렌트는 정치이론과 정치철학에 집중하였고 국제정치 분야에 관해서는 거의언급하지 않았다. 그러나 근래 심화일로의 지구화 수준, 반복되는 정치적ㆍ경제적위기상황, 급격히 증가하는 이주자 및 소수자 집단들의 권리 보호 등이 시급히 해결해야 할 중요한 글로벌 폴리틱스의 현안으로 부상하면서 아렌트의 탈(脫)국민국가(post-nation-state)체제 관련 개념들이 재조명되고 있다. 이에 필자는 이 글을 통해 아렌트의 인권, 유목적 폴리스, 수행적 행위의 정치사상이 오늘 우리의글로벌 폴리틱스에 어떤 유의미한 이론적 공헌을 할 수 있는지를 밝혀보고자 한다.
