The causes of juvenile crimes vary for many reasons. It is conducive for juveniles to commit crimes, because of an environment that encourages such deviant behavior. For example, family issues, may trigger this kind of deviant behavior. Compulsive behavior directly impacts on juvenile delinquency, and juvenile delinquents become a hindrance to the well-being of society. Juvenile delinquents should be treated with psychological methods, such as using dogs to make personal connections with them. It is possible to rehabilitate delinquents in The Cheonan Juvenile Prison, to reduce criminal behavior, through psychological treatment, and reform edification. This study was conducted, using results from surveys, and MMPI tests on prison guards' diaries, and observations of using dogs for treatment, to reduce violence typically associated with juvenile delinquents in The Cheonan Juvenile Prison. Using the results, we concluded that it would be a suitable program for juvenile delinquents in the future.

소년범죄의 원인은 여러 가지 이유로 다양하다. 비정상적인 행동을 조장하는 여러 환경들이 청소년 범죄의 원인이 되고 있다. 예를 들어 가족 문제는 이런 종류의 비정상적인 행동을 유발할 수 있다. 강박적인 행동은 청소년 비행에 직접적인 영향을 미치고, 청소년 비행과 범죄 수용생활에서의 수용자에 대한 교화프로그램의 부족은 교정복지를 저해하는 요인이 된다. 소년수용자 관련 교정당국 책임자는 치료도우미견과 같은 프로그램으로 동물과 매개를 갖는 프로그램을 운영하여 관계를 맺는 등의 심리적 방법으로 치료해야 한다. 천안소년교도소의 수용자들과 같은 수용자들에게 치료도우미견 프로그램으로 재활시켜 심리적 처우와 교정 교화를 통해 범죄 행위를 줄일 수 있다. 이 연구는 천안소년교도소 수용자들과 관련된 폭력을 줄이기 위해 설문 조사 결과와 교도관들의 근무일지에 대한 자료와 MMPI 심리테스트, 심리치료에 애견 사용에 대한 관찰연구를 통하여 연구를 수행하였다. 연구 결과를 토대로 향후 소년 비행 등의 치료를 위한 프로그램으로 소년수용자에게 적합한 프로그램이라고 결론지었다.
