『Madang』 Magazine, published in 1973, was among the various magazines for Korean residents in Japan. It formed diverse discourses such as handling internal problems of the society. 『Madang』 concentrated on the formation of popular culture by using tradition in order to transcend ideologies and create harmony among all the Korean residents in Japan. Traditional discourse in 『Madang』 was used in three methods. First, was the introduction of traditional tales and Joseon historical stories; second, was the use of Chinese poems; and third, was the introduction of history through cultural heritages from the Period of the Three Kingdoms, Goryeo, and Joseon. 『Madang』 used tradition, a common ground, to bring Korean residents in Japan into harmony, and for the formation of popular culture. As a result, 『Madang』 aimed to inspire national consciousness of Korean residents in Japan and leave cultural heritages that would pass down to future generations.

1973년 출간된 재일조선인 잡지 『마당』은 다양한 재일조선인 잡지 사이에서 사회 내부적 문제를 다루는 독자적 행보를 통해 다양한 담론을 형성했다. 『마당』은 이데올로기를 초월한 모든 재일조선인의 화합 가능한 지면을 만들기 위해 전통을 활용해 민중문화 형성에 주력했다. 『마당』에서의 전통담론은 세 가지 방식으로 활용되었다. 첫 번째로 전통설화와 조선사화의 소개, 두 번째는 한시의 활용, 세 번째는 삼국시대, 고려, 조선의 문화유산을 통한 역사 소개였다. 『마당』은 재일조선인의 화합과 민중문화의 형성을 위해 민족 공통항인 전통을 활용했다. 이를 통해 재일조선인들의 민족의식을 고취시키고 후대에 계승할 수 있는 문화유산을 남기는 것이 『마당』의 지향점이었다.
