The aim of this thesis is to clarify the effect of educational drama on children's critical thinking by constructing educational drama classes dealing with moral values and examining the effect of the educational drama. Research issues for this are as follows. I study the effect of educational drama dealing with moral values on children's critical thinking skills and dispositions. To construct the educational drama classes dealing with moral values, I extract moral values based on moral education curriculum of elementary school, and I establish eight times of teaching-learning process which are applied by variable dramatic conventions of educational drama. I demonstrate pre and post experiments on control groups. The experimental group is 26 children of a fifth grade class in Seoul, and the control group is also 26 children of another fifth grade class in same elementary school. To examine the critical thinking skills, I referred to studies from Korea Educational Development Institute(KEDI), and I considered and used modified test sheet by Dong-Woo Lim(1996) and Jin-Kyoung Kown(2006), and the modified test sheet by Dong-Woo Lim(1996) (the original test sheet is from Korea Educational Development Institute) for examining the critical thinking dispositions. I studied the homogeneity between the experimental and control groups by independent t-test, and then I demonstrated paired t-test to investigate change of the children’s critical thinking by using I-STATistics program. And I have analysed the recorded class videos, children’s activity sheets and questionnaires. The results of this investigation are as follows. First, educational drama dealing with moral values had a positive influence on children’s critical thinking skills. Second, educational drama dealing with moral values affect to children’s critical thinking dispositions positively. Educational drama encourages the students to consider the given problem as their own problem and to think themselves by changing their position. Moreover, educational drama activated the student's self-examination and reflective thinking by distancing. From these results, I conclude that educational drama dealing with moral values is effective to improvement of children's critical thinking. These studies lead that moral subject can be useful for critical thinking education of children and the educational drama can heighten an effect of the education. Consequently, this educational drama can be useful and successful for children’s critical thinking improvement.

이 연구는 도덕적 가치를 소재로 한 교육연극 수업이 초등학생의 비판적 사고에 미치는 영향을 알아봄 으로써 초등학생의 비판적 사고 교육에 대한 교육연극의 효과를 밝히는 것을 목적으로 한다. 연구는 사 후-사전 검사 통제집단 실험 설계를 하였고 서울시의 한 초등학교 5학년 1개 학급 학생 26명을 실험집 단, 동일학교 타 학급 학생 26명을 통제집단으로 하였다. 초등 도덕과 교육과정의 가치 덕목을 소재로 한 교육연극 수업을 실험 집단에 총 8회기 실행하였다. 수업 실행의 사전, 사후에 검사지를 활용하여 비판적 사고 기능과 비판적 사고 성향을 측정하였다. 그리고 검사 도구의 타당성을 보완하기 위하여 수 업 녹화 및 학생 활동지와 사후 설문지를 분석하였다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 도덕적 가치를 다루 는 교육연극은 초등학생의 비판적 사고 기능과 비판적 사고 성향에 긍정적인 영향을 주었다. 교육연극 은 학생들이 주어진 문제 상황을 자신의 문제로 바라보게 하고 입장을 바꾸어 사고하도록 하였으며 거 리 두기를 통해 성찰과 반성적 사고를 촉진하였다. 이 연구는 기존의 비판적 사고 교육의 적용 교과를 도덕과로 넓혔다는 데 의의가 있으며 초등학생의 비판적 사고 교육에 교육연극이 효과적으로 활용될 수 있음을 시사한다.
