This study examined the influence of meaning in life that university students perceived on depression and career identity and focused on whether depression played a mediated role. To verify the study, the survey was conducted with 534 undergraduates using meaning in life, depression and career identity scales and descriptive statistics, t-test, Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient and hierarchical multiple regression analysis were carried out using SPSS 240 program with collected data. Main study results are as follows First, The study found that there was a positive correlation between meaning in life and career identity and depression had a negative correlation with meaning in life and career identity. Second, The meaning in life that undergraduates perceived and depression had a meaningful influence on career identity and depression played a partially mediated role in relation between meaning in life and career identity. Third, As a result of analyzing the gender differences among study variables, the depression had a partially mediated effect on the relation between meaning in life and career identity in the case of women undergraduates while there was no mediated effect in men undergraduates. Main implications and a follow-up study related to undergraduates’ career identity were suggested on the basis of study results.

본 연구는 대학생이 지각하는 삶의 의미가 우울과 진로정체감에 미치는 영향을 알아보고, 우울이 매개 역할을 하는지에 주목하였다. 이를 위해 534명의 대학생을 대상으로삶의 의미, 우울, 진로정체감 척도를 사용하여 설문조사를 실시하였고, 수집된 자료는SPSS 24.0 프로그램을 활용하여 기술통계, t-검증, Pearson 적률상관계수, 위계적 다중회귀 분석을 실시하였다. 주요 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 삶의 의미와 진로정체감은 정적상관이, 우울은 삶의 의미, 진로정체감과 부적상관이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 대학생이 지각한 삶의 의미와 우울은 진로정체감에 유의한 영향을 미쳤고, 삶의 의미와 진로정체감의 관계에서 우울은 부분매개역할을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 연구변인들 간의 성별에 따른 차이를 분석한 결과, 여자 대학생의 경우 삶의 의미와 진로정체감의 관계에서 우울은 부분매개효과가 있는 것으로 나타난 반면, 남자 대학생의 경우매개효과가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 본 연구결과를 바탕으로 대학생들의 진로정체감과 관련하여 주요 시사점 및 후속연구를 제안하였다.
