Interpreting and Translation Studies 22(2), 103-133 This paper intends to provide translation criticism on The Little Stranger , which was translated by the winner of Yoo Young Translation Award. The evaluation criteria for translation awards have not been specifically defined yet. The study applies Berman's translation criticism methodology to exhibit how the translator's translation strategy was implemented in the translation and what could possibly constitute good translation. Literary translation criticism is different from literary translation evaluation in that it tries to recognize how the translator captures and expresses the literary value. By introducing the method of translation criticism and presenting an actual criticism based on this methodology, this study attempts to move away from the fault-finding evaluation toward a productive criticism. Through dignifying the work of translation, the study is expected to highlight translation as a creative act, thus improving the status of the translator.
