In modern society, many families experience crisis. Various complex causes to trigger and aggravate the crisis, and the solutions might be diverse. John Paul II approached the problem with the consideration that the crisis with which we have confronted has been caused by the loss of the value of love as the purpose of marriage. Because the beginning of the family starts from the marriage. In this sense, he considers the meaning of the family through reflection on the value of conjugal love in marriage. This paper examines the meaning of the family from the perspective of John Paul II. First, it looks at the meaning of conjugal love and transmitting life as a substantial basis of the family and the marriage. It also finds out the meaning of the family based communion as a community of persons. In addition, we will see that the meaning of the family has relevance to bioethics, in particular through "the conjugal love and procreation". On the other hand, this study does not consider the meaning of the family as a family church. Thus, this study has fundamental limitations in the understanding of the family of John Paul II. For his understanding of the family can only be grasped when considering these three aspects of the anthropological and theological dimension. Nevertheless, this paper attempts to deepen insight into the love of the couple in the face of the family crisis (between husband and wife, between parents and children, etc.). This will provide a starting point for the solution. In the conjugal love, the significance of the unity and that of procreation are inherent in an inseparable connection. The marital love, therefore, can be preserved entirely in and through this inseparable connection to accepting a new life as a person. According to John Paul II, the family is the place in which each person appears in his or her own uniqueness and irreplaceability. It is a profoundly human system, constructed upon the value of the person and concentrated entirely around this value. The community is based on the love of mutual personal communion. Love is the essence of the family, a new life is the fruit and the sign of love, and the family community is the place where this love is realized.

현대 사회에서 많은 가정은 위기를 경험한다. 여러 가지 복합적인 원인이 그 위기를 촉발하고 악화시키는 것이며, 그에 따른 해결책도 다양할 것이다. 요한 바오로 2세는 현대 가정에서 맞이하는위기는 혼인의 목적으로서 사랑의 가치를 상실하면서 비롯한 것이라는 고찰과 함께 그 문제를 접근한다. 왜냐하면 가정의 시작은 바로 혼인에서 출발하기 때문이다. 이러한 차원에서 그는 혼인에 담긴 부부 사랑의 가치에 대한 성찰을 통해 가정의 의미를 고찰한다. 본 논문은 요한 바오로 2세의 가정의 의미를 살펴본다. 먼저 본 논문은 가정과 혼인의 실질적인 기반이 되는 부부사랑과 생명 전달의 의미를 살펴본다. 또한 인격체들의 공동체로서 친교를 기반으로 하는 가정의 의미를 살펴본다. 더불어 그 의미들과 생명윤리와의 관련성을 “부부사랑과 출산”이라는 부분을 통해 살펴본다. 한편본 연구는 가정교회로서의 가정의 의미는 고찰하지 못한다. 따라서 본 연구는 요한 바오로 2세의 가정 이해에 근본적인 한계를 가진다. 왜냐하면 그의 가정 이해는 인간학적 그리고 신학적 차원을종합하는 이 세 가지 측면을 고찰될 때 비로소 파악될 수 있기 때문이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 본 논문은 현대 사회에서 직면하는 가정의 위기(부부 사이에서, 부모와 자녀 사이에서 등)는 부부 사랑에 대한 깊은 통찰을 시도한다. 이를 통해 그 해결책을 모색할 수있는 단초를 제공한다. 부부 사랑에는 부부의 일치의 의의와 출산의 의의가 불가분의 연관성으로 내재한다. 따라서 부부 사랑은 새로운 생명을 인격으로서 받아들이는 이 불가분의 연관성을 통해서그리고 그 안에서 온전히 실존하며 보존될 수 있다. 요한 바오로 2 세에 따르면, 가정은 각 인격이 그의 혹은 그녀의 대체 불가능한유일한 존재를 드러내는 장소이다. 가정은 그 인격의 가치 위에서구성되고, 그 가치에 온전히 집중된 인격들의 공동체이다. 그 공동체는 상호 인격적 친교의 사랑을 기반으로 한다. 사랑이 바로 가정의 본질이며, 생명은 그 사랑의 열매이자 징표이며, 가정 공동체는 이러한 사랑이 실현되는 장소이다.
