This paper is to study the causes of educational problems and the appropriateness of sociological perspectives for analyzing those in Korea. The method of study is to research the literatures on this subject. The results of study are as follows. Students dissatisfy in school management and teaching method. Students in secondary school have the longer study hours than college and university students. And extracurricular activities in secondary school is distorted by entrance examination for university. The expenses for out-of school studies are heavy burden to parents of students and those often changed the examination method for entering university. The education for university entrance examination is the most important factor among all causes of educational problems in secondary school. The education for entering reputable university distorts the education itself in secondary school, tramples student's right and decreases the life quality of students. The distorted education is inevitably accepted to all to get the better social reputation by attending reputable universities. In case of considering these factors, we can explain more educational problems in Korea in conflict perspective than functional perspective.

본 연구는 평준화 정책의 존폐와 관련된 주장들의 현실적 타당성을 살펴보기 위해, 중등교육문제와 교육을 보는 관점과의 관련성을 문헌연구방법을 통해 분석하였다.본 연구의 결과, 민주화에 따른 교육개혁과 교육법의 개정에도 불구하고 학생들의 학교 만족도는 낮았으며, 교과교육에 대한 만족도도 낮았다. 모든 학생들 중에서 고등학생들의 학습시간이 가장 길었고, 특기적성교육도 왜곡되어 있었다. 중등학생 시기의 사교육비 지출은 학부모들에게 큰 부담이었으며, 우리나라 대학입시제도의 변경은 사교육문제를 해결하기 위한 것이었다. 그리고 이러한 중등교육문제의 가장 근본적인 요인은 입시위주의 교육이었다. 명문대학 및 인기학과 진학을 위한 입시위주의 교육은 중등교육의 공동화현상과 청소년의 인권유린 및 삶의 질 저하에도 불구하고 학부모와 학생, 학교와 정부에 의해 어쩔 수 없이 사회적 위신의 획득과 사회이동의 수단으로 수용되고 있다. 이러한 점을 고려할 때 중등교육 문제점을 이해하고 해결하기 위해서는 기능론적 관점보다 갈등론적 관점이 설득력이 크다.
