Kim Chunsoo is a poet who constantly led his own poetic world and explored the existence. His early poems therefore continue to affect the subsequent poems. He engrossed in the existence due to his personal experience of suffering from violence initiated by Japan in his 20s, particularly concentrating on being alone of existence－“solitude.” The Korean poet considered this as a journey of life and his thought about solitude frequently appears in his poetic theory. Thus, more detailed research on what solitude means as the poet defines is needed and his poetic world can be figured out in more details when the implication of solitude is In this context, this study aimed to study “solitude” that the poet spoke. “Solitude” focuses on being alone of existence and like divine punishment of being solitary despite being with people. “Deficiency” and “freedom” are embedded in solitude. Deficiency refers to, in other words, the limits as a corporeal person, thereby incapable of following the spiritual enhancement. On the contrary, “freedom” is oriented to other’s time by escaping from the deficiency and in line with the artistic orientation. Elements of existential deficiency are concentrated in his early poems and ambiguous entities appearing in his early poems are described as forms that primarily desire for something due to deficiency. The other is also presented as an deficient entity and subject seems to be portrayed as showing sympathy with it. “Flower,” an indispensable element in his early poems, also involves the deficiency. It aims to fulfill the deficiency through calling. If this is applied in the process of creative writing, it is consistent with artistic deficiency in an attempt to approach the source of existence.

김춘수는 자신의 시세계를 일관되게 이끌어나간 시인으로 존재에 관해탐구해 온 시인이다. 따라서 그의 초기 시는 이후의 시들에까지 지속적으로영향을 미치고 있다. 김춘수는 이십대 초반 일제에 의해 겪게 된 폭력 체험을 계기로 존재의 홀로 있음, 즉 ‘고독’에 몰두하게 된다. 김춘수는 ‘고독’ 을 삶의 여정으로 생각했으며 고독에 대한 이러한 생각은 그의 시론에도 자주 등장하고 있다. 그렇다면 그가 말하는 ‘고독’이 무엇인지에 대해서도 보다 깊이 있는 연구가 필요하며 그것이 확립되어야 그의 시세계를 조금 더깊이 있게 이해할 수 있을 것이다. 이 연구는 그런 맥락에서 김춘수가 말하는 ‘고독’을 연구하고자 했다. ‘고독’은 존재의 홀로 있음에 주목하는 것으로 대중과 함께 있어도 외로울수밖에 없는 천형과도 같다. 그러한 고독에는 ‘결핍’과 ‘자유’가 내재되어있는데 결핍은 다른 말로 육체를 입은 자로서의 한계를 뜻하며 그로 인해정신의 고양을 따라갈 수 없다는 한계를 내포하고 있다. 반면 ‘자유’는 그러한 결핍에서 벗어나 타자의 시간을 향하는 것으로 그것은 예술적 지향과도맥을 같이 한다. 김춘수의 초기 시에는 존재론적 결핍의 요소가 집중되어있으며 초기 시에 등장하는 모호한 존재들은 대부분 결핍으로 인해 무엇인가를 갈구하는 형태로 나타나고 있다. 타자 역시도 결핍을 가진 존재로 등장하고 있으며 주체는 그것에 공감하는 형태를 보인다. 초기 시에서 빼놓을수 없는 ‘꽃’ 역시도 결핍을 내재하고 있는데 꽃은 호명을 통해 결핍을 채우려 하고 있으며 그것을 창작의 과정에 대입하면 존재의 근원에 가 닿고자하는 예술적 결핍과도 맥을 같이 한다.
