The purpose of this study is to examine the mentoring program of Language Education Center in the ‘I’ University and to identify the meaning of other-orientation as a practical ability of the mentors experienced by Korean language learners in the mentoring program. This study conducted qualitative case study to solve the following research problems: What is the meaning of the other-orientation of the mentors experienced by the Korean language learners in the mentoring program? The results of this study are as follows. First, the mentors of Korean language learners showed the communication without empathy in terms of other-orientation as communication and empathy. Second, as the 'others' rather than 'us', those mentors showed hospitality in terms of other-orientation as reception and hospitality. Third, those mentors showed a sense of responsibility without self-reflection in terms of other-orientation as substitutional responsibility. This study provided the plan for revitalization of mentoring program, and suggestions for institutionalization of mentor competency education.

이 연구는 I대학교 언어교육원의 멘토링 프로그램을 고찰하고, 한국어 멘토링 프로그램에 참여하여 한국어 학습자가 경험한 멘토의 실천적 역량으로서 타자지향성의 의미를밝히는 것이다. 이를 위한 연구문제는 멘토링 프로그램에서 한국어 학습자가 경험한 멘토의 타자지향성의 의미는 어떠한가? 이다. 연구문제를 해결하기 위하여 질적 사례연구를 수행하였다. 연구 결과, 한국어 학습자의 멘토는 소통과 공감으로서의 타자지향성 측면에서 <공감이 부재한 소통>, 영접과 환대로서의 타자지향성 측면에 <‘우리’가 아닌 ‘타자’로서 환대>, 대속적 책임으로서의 타자지향성 측면에 <자아성찰이 요구되는 책임의식>이라는공통주제로 나타났다. 연구를 통해, 멘토링 프로그램의 활성화 및 멘토의 역량 교육에 대한 제도적 마련을위한 시사점을 제공하였다.
