Along with the rapid increase of transnational migration, the Korean society quickly entered into a multicultural society. As a result, the number of multicultural students with multicultural backgrounds suddenly made an increase in schools, which made our society come face to face with educational problems that we had not experienced before. However, the education system that has to deal with these problems has its limitations because most of the curriculum is focused on Korean students. Therefore, a new educational system is in need to overcome the educational limitations of multicultural students, while imposing education on multicultural understanding and internationalization for mainstream Korean students. This study focuses on the establishment and operation of a ‘Multicultural International School’ as part of a new multicultural education system. This research proposes a new model of multicultural international school in the aspect of integrative education based on multicultural students's characteristics and ideas to bring it in practice by examining the problems and limitations of current policies on multicultural education and multicultural alternative schools. The results of this research are as follows: First, the curriculum deviates from the current rigid curriculum focused on mainstream Korean students and mainly focuses on 'customized education based on characteristics of multicultural students' and 'international education appropriate for a multicultural and international era. Second, an integrative education rather than a separated system is proposed. Third, based on the ideology of integrative education, the multicultural international school should be established and operated for the purpose of students' career path and college entry so that the founding principle of the school is not disturbed.

초국적 이주가 급증하면서 한국사회도 빠르게 다문화사회로 진입하게 되었다. 이로인해 일선 학교에는 다문화 배경을 가진 다문화학생들이 급증하였고 다문화학생의 증가는 우리가 이전에 경험하지 못했던 교육문제들을 직면하게 만들었다. 그러나 이에 대응하기 위한 한국의 교육시스템은 한계를 드러내고 있다. 이는 현재의 교육과정이 한국 학생들을 중심으로 편성되어 있기 때문이다. 따라서 다문화학생에 대한 교육적 한계를 극복하고, 주류 한국학생들에 대한 ‘다문화 이해교육’과 ‘국제화교육’을 위한 새로운 교육시스템이 필요하게 되었다. 본 연구는 새로운 다문화교육 시스템의 하나로써 ‘다문화국제학교’ 설립과 운영방안에 관한 내용을 중심으로 진행되었다. 기존 다문화교육 정책 및 다문화대안학교들의 문제와 한계를 찾아보고, 이를 바탕으로 다문화학생의 특성을 고려한 통합교육 차원의 다문화국제학교 모델을 제안하였으며, 이를 실천하기 위한 설립 및 운영방안을 제시하였다. 본 연구의 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 기존 학교의 주류 한국학생 중심의 경직된교육과정에서 벗어나 ‘다문화학생의 특성에 맞춘 맞춤형교육’, ‘다문화·국제화 시대에대비한 국제화 교육’을 주요 교육내용으로 구성하였다. 둘째, 다문화학생만을 위한 분리교육이 아닌 통합교육을 실현할 수 있는 학교상을 제시하였다. 셋째, 다문화국제학교는통합교육 이념을 바탕으로, 학생의 진로 및 진학이라는 목적에 맞게 설립하고 운영함으로써 학교설립의 목적이 훼손되지 않도록 해야 할 것이다.
