This paper examined the linguistic normativity shown from the drama ｢Lullaby for Two Siblings｣ by Choi In-hoon. As for the drama transfigured from ｢The Brother and Sister Who Became the Sun and the Moon｣, a Korean oral folk tale, this study paid attention to the norm implied in the word 'mother' and the growth process of a child who enters the humane and moral order on accepting this word. Hence, it investigated the linguistic normativity guiding human behaviors onto the socially right path and implicating the transition to the ethical being in terms of Xunzi's philosophy of language. Choi In-hoon is the writer who recognized the importance of mother in shaping the moral character of human beings. Through such normativity, human beings grow up as the social self. ｢Lullaby for Two Siblings｣ may be interpreted as the work reflecting the intention of the writer in order for them to reconsider their ethicality, never falling into a natural state of an animal or an atomic individualization of egoism.

본고는 최인훈의 희곡 ｢첫째야 자장자장 둘째야 자장자장｣에 나타난 언어의 규범성을 탐구했다. 한국 구전민담인 ｢해와 달이 된 오누이｣를 변 용한 이 희곡에서 ‘엄마’라는 어휘에 내포되어 있는 규범과, 이 어휘를 수 용하는 순간 인간적이고 인륜적인 질서 속에 발을 들이게 되는 어린아이 의 성장 과정에 주목했다. 따라서 인간의 행동을 사회적으로 올바르게 인 도하고, 윤리적 존재로의 이행을 함의하는 언어의 규범성을 순자의 언어 철학으로 고찰해 보았다. 최인훈은 인간의 품성 형성에서 어머니의 중요 성을 인식한 작가이다. 그 안에 담겨있는 규범성을 통해 인간은 사회적 자아로 성장하게 된다. ｢첫째야 자장자장 둘째야 자장자장｣은 인간이 자 연적 동물의 상태나 이기적인 원자적 개인화로 빠지지 않고, 자신의 윤리 성을 재고하게 만들려는 작가의 의지가 반영된 작품으로 해석될 수 있다.
